Alexa's mom enrolled her into recreational gymnastics for fun when she was six years old at Chow's Gymnastics in West Des Moines, IA and has been there ever since. As a level 5 gymnast in 2012, Alexa finished first in the all-around wth a 37.600 and first on balance beam and floor exercise at the State Championships. She continued competing level 5 in 2013 where she placed second in the all-around and first on floor exercise at the State Championships. Alexa moved up to level 6 in 2014, finishing first in the all-around with a 37.400 and first on balance beam at the State Championships. As a level 7 gymnast in 2015, Alexa placed first in the all-around with a 38.300 and first on all events.
In 2016, Alexa moved up to level 8. At the State Championships, she placed first in the all-around with a 37.700 and first on all events. She qualified to the Region 4 Championships being part of Region 4 Super Team where she placed fifth in the all-around and fourth on vault. In 2017 as a level 9 gymnast, Alexa placed first on vault and in the all-around at the State Championships. At the Region 4 Championships, she finished second in the all-around, first on vault and balance beam and second on floor exercise. Alexa had a great meet at the Level 9 Western Nationals where she placed first in the all-around with a 37.975. She also earned gold medals on vault and balance beam.
Alexa had a fantastic season in 2018 as a second-year level 9 season. At the State Championships, she grabbed gold medals on vault, uneven bars, floor exercise and in the all-around with a 38.100. At the Region 4 Championships, she finished second in the all-around and first on vault and floor exercise. She qualified to the Level 9 Western Nationals in Salt Lake City, UT again where she became the national champion in the all-around with a 38.300. She also brought home another gold medal on floor exercise with a 9.700 and a silver medal on balance beam with a 9.575. Alexa was named to America's Top 100 on uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise (3x) and all-around (4x). Alexa was chosen as Chow’s Gymnastics Optional Gymnast of the Year.
As a first-year level 10 gymnast in 2019, Alexa placed fourth in the all-around and third on balance beam at the State Championships. She qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals after finishing seventh in the all-around and third on floor exercise with a 9.650 at the Region 4 Championships. In 2020, Alexa qualified to the Level 10 State Championships but was unable to compete due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Alexa trains 25 hours per week at Chow's Gymnastics in West Des Moines, IA under coaches Rebecca Simbhudas and Sean Gardner. Alexa's long-term goal is to obtain a Division I college gymnastics scholarship.
