Alexandra began gymnastics in 1996 at the age of three in a mommy and me class. She began her gymnastics career at Exper-Tiess Gymnastics. She competed as a level eight in 2002 where she qualified to the Level 8 Regional Championships and finished seventh in the all-around.
In 2003, Alexandra moved up to level nine. She finished fifth in the all-around and second on floor exercise at the Level 9 Regional Championships. There, she qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Championships. In 2004, Alexandra competed a second year of level nine. She finished fourth in the all-around and first on uneven bars at the Level 9 State Championships. Alexandra then placed tenth in the all-around and won the floor exercise title at Level 9 Regional Championships. Alexandra qualified to her second Level 9 Eastern Championships.
Alexandra moved up to level ten in 2005. At the Level 10 Regionals, she won the all around and uneven bars titles. Alexandra placed second on the other three events. She had a respectable showing at Junior Olympic National Championships where she placed 19th overall. During the Junior Olympic season, Alexandra competed at the American Challenge as a Child Pre-Elite. She finished her 2005 season at the US Challenge.
In 2006, Alexandra placed eighth in the all-around and fifth on balance beam at the Level 10 State Championships in all age groups. She qualiied to the Junior Olympic National Championships again after placing second in the all-around and first on the floor exercise at the Level 10 Regional Championships. At the JO Nationals, she placed fifth on floor exercise with a 9.425. In June, she qualified to junior international elite and to the US Classic, which is a qualifier to the US National Championships. Alexandra decided to compete at an Elite Zone Meet as a practice for an upcoming meet, US Classic, which would be held in Kansas City. Sadly, Alexandra was injured at the US Classic and only was able to compete on one event, balance beam.
In 2007, Alexandra finished fourth in the all-around and first on balance beam at the Aquafina Team Challenge. At the Level 10 State Championships, she won the all-around title as well as first on vault and floor exercise. Alexandra qualified to the US Classic after finishing third in the all-around at the May Elite Qualifier. She concluded her 2007 season at the US Classic.
Alexandra missed most of 2008 because of an injury. She competed during summer of 2009 at the July National Elite Qualifier where she finished second in the all-around. Alexandra came back strong during her 2009-2010 season. During the winter of 2009, Alexandra won all-around title at the Pilgrim Harvest Invitational and Pinky Stone Invitational.
In January 2009, Alexandra traveled to San Juan, Pueto Rico where she won the all-around as well as all four events at the competition. She then finished first in the all-around as well as first on vault, balance beam and floor exercise at the Winter Wonderland. At the sand Dollar Invitational, she placed seventh overall and second on balance beam. At the end of February, Alexandra finished second in the all-around at the Buckeye Classic.
Currently, Alexandra trains 30 hours per a week at Exper-Tiess Gymnastics in St. James, New York. She is training under coaches Barbara Tiess, Mary Tiess and Caryl Crasa. Alexandra hopes to qualify to the VISA Championships in Hartford, CT and to become a US National Team Member.
Alexandra Elizabeth Christensen was born on May 10, 1993 in Southampton, New York to Jon and Jane Christensen. She has three older sisters; Amanda (24), Elizabeth (21) and Gabrielle (19). Currently, Alexandra is in 10th grade at Laurel Springs College Preparatory. During Alexandra's spare time, she loves to go to the beach, shopping and cooking.
