Alissa Bonsall was born on February 16, 1999 in Hartford, CT to David and Stephanie Bonsall. She has two sisters, Jenn and Annie and one brother, David. Currently, Alissa is a senior at Haddam-Killingworth High School, graduating in the spring of 2017. During Alissa's spare time, she enjoys baking, water skiing, golfing and playing backgammon.

Alissa started gymnastics at the age of three after she took a summer "Fairyland Camp." The coaches told her mom how strong and balanced she was. She started her gymnastics career at Connecticut Gymnastic Academy.

As a level 5 gymnast in 2008, Alissa finished second in the all-around and first on uneven bars and balance beam at the State Championships. She competed in one level 6 meet in January 2009, finishing first on vault, floor exercise and in the all-around. Alissa moved up to level 7 for the 2009-2010 season. She had a great meet at the State Championships where she finished first on vault, uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise and in the all-around with a 38.425.

In 2011, Alissa moved up to level 8 where she placed first on uneven bars and in the all-around as well as third on floor exercise at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 6 Championships, finishing third in the all-around. In the summer of 2011, Alissa started training at New England Gymnastics Express (NEGX)

As a level 9 gymnast in 2012, Alissa won the all-around title at the State Championships. At the Region 6 Championships, Alissa finished fourth in the all-around, first on vault and third on uneven bars. She qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals where she finished ninth in the all-around and sixth on vault.

As a first-year level 10 gymnast in 2013, Alissa placed second on vault, uneven bars, balance beam and in the all-around at the State Championships. She finished eighth in the all-around and second on vault at the Region 6 Championships. She was the first alternate to the Junior Olympic Nationals and competed at the Junior Olympic NIT in Minneapolis, MN. In 2014, Alissa finished sixth in the all-around and first on vault at the State Championships. At the Region 6 Championships, she placed 11th in the all-around, fourth on vault and seventh on floor exercise. In July, Alissa traveled to Huntsville, TX for the National Elite Qualifier. She placed 11th in the all-around and third on vault in compulsories and fifth in the all-around in optionals.

In 2015, Alissa finished second in the all-around and first on vault and floor exercise at the State Championships. At the Region 6 Championships, she placed fourth in the all-around, second on vault and third on uneven bars and floor exercise. She qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Des Moines, IA where she placed 17th in the all-around with a 37.550 and tenth on vault. Alissa had a great season in 2016 where she placed third in the all-around and first on vault and uneven bars at the State Championships. At the Region 6 Championships, she finished second in the all-around with a 37.425 and first on vault, uneven bars and floor exercise. Alissa qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Ft. Worth, TX where she placed sixth in the all-around with a 37.775 and eighth on uneven bars with a 9.550.

Currently, Alissa is preparing for the 2017 season. She trains 20-25 hours per week at New England Gymnastics Express (NEGX) under coaches Maureen Chagnon and Blane Jefferson. Alissa verbally committed to Penn State University for the 2017-2018 school year.
