Alyssa Perez-Lugones was born on January 7, 2000 in Lawrenceville, GA to Marty and Ignacio Perez-Lugones. She has an older sister, Ariana, a twin sister, Maya and a younger brother, Dario. Maya is also a level 10 gymnast at Georgia Gymnastics Academy. Alyssa is an honor student at Peachtree Ridge High School and she will graduate in 2018. During Alyssa's spare time, she enjoys drawing, singing, dancing and playing piano.
Alyssa and her twin sister, Maya had too much energy, so her parents enrolled both into gymnastics to release some energy. They started recreational classes in 2003 at age three at Gymnastix Training Center and eventually started their competitive gymnastics career at Georgia Gymnastics Academy in Suwanee, GA.
In 2009, Alyssa placed in the top ten in the all-around and fourth on balance beam at the Level 7 State Championships. She continued competing level 7 in 2010 where she placed fifth in the all-around and second on vault at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships, finishing ninth in the all-around and fourth on balance beam. Alyssa moved up to level 8 for the 2011 season. She earned a bronze medal on balance beam at the State Championships and qualified to the Region 8 Championships. In 2012, she finished fourth in the all-around and second on balance beam at the Level 8 State Championships. Alyssa had a great meet at the Region 8 Championships where she placed first in the all-around with a 37.750, first on balance beam and third on vault and uneven bars.
As a first-year level 9 gymnast in 2013, Alyssa finished fourth in the all-around and third on balance beam at the State Championships. At the Region 8 Championships, she placed 14th overall. Alyssa did qualify to the State Championships after finishing second in the all-around at the Hilton Head Island Invitational in 2014 but was unable to compete most of the season due to an injury. Alyssa came back strong during her final level 9 season in 2015. She placed second in the all-around and first on floor exercise at the State Championships. At the Region 8 Championships, Alyssa placed first in the all-around with a 37.800, first on floor exercise, second on vault and third on balance beam. She qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals in Kissimmee, FL where she won the all-around title with a 38.050. She also placed first on balance beam, second on floor exercise and fourth on vault. Alyssa made the Region 8 All Star Team where they attended Panama in August 2015. She was also invited to attend the 2015 JO National Training Camp at the National Training Center in Huntsville, TX in October 2015.
As a first-year level 10 gymnast in 2016, Alyssa finished ninth in the all-around, third on bars and fourth on vault at the State Championships. At the Region 8 Championships, she placed tenth all-around with a 37.025 and qualified as first alternate to the JO Nationals. In 2017, Alyssa placed third in the all-around with a 37.125, first on vault and second on floor exercise at the State Championships. She finished in the top ten in the all-around and fifth on vault and floor exercise at the Region 8 Championships.
Alyssa trains 20 hours per week at Georgia Gymnastics Academy in Lawrenceville, GA training under Head Coach Judy Prestigiacomo and Assistant Coaches Mandy Cain and Annette Kaiser. Alyssa is working hard to reach her goal to obtain a college gymnastics scholarship.
