Biography // Anna's Favorites
Anna Bowers was born on July 11, 1996 in Montgomery County, Maryland to Chauncey and Carolyn Bowers. She has three siblings; Ashley (18), Elijah (12) and Abigail (10) and a dog. Currently, Anna is in 11th grade at Allendale Academy. She will graduate from high school in 2013.
Anna began gymnastics in 2006. Prior to relocating to Region 8, she trained at Sportsplex Gymnastics Facility in Region 7, after the head coach Patti Delaney approached Anna and her mom about considering training to compete in gymnastics for Regoin 7. Anna trained at Southeastern Gymnastics through the 2009 season. She then moved to Everest Gymnastics for the 2010 season before returning to Southeastern.
In 2007, Anna competed as a level 5 gymnast. She won uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise and the all-around at the Stinger Classic. She won vault, uneven bars, floor exercise and the all-around at the Judges Cup. Anna placed first on uneven bars, floor exercise and the all-around at the Level 5 State Championships. She moved up to level 6 in 2008. She swept the gold medals at the Turkey Tumble. She also won all five gold medals at the Level 6 State Championships. A week later, she started competing as a level 7 gymnast, winning the floor exercise and the all-around titles at the Get Your Feet Wet meet.
Anna continued competing level seven through the 2009 season. She swept the gold medals at the Flip Fest Invitational. She won vault, balance beam, floor exercise and the all-around at the Hilton Head Island Invitational. Anna placed first vault, uneven bars, floor exercise and the all-around at the WOGA Classic. She won the floor exercise title at the Charleston Cup. Anna won both uneven bars and floor exercise at the National Gymnastics Challenge. At the Level 7 State Championships, she finished first on uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise and in the the all-around. She won balance beam, floor exercise and the all-around at the Level 7 Regional Invitational.
She moved up to level 8 in 2010. She began her season by winning five gold medals at the Flip Fest Invitational. Anna won vault, uneven bars, floor exercise and the all-around at the Tiger Paw Invitational and vault, uneven bars and the all-around at the Charleston Cup. At the Level 8 State Championships, she placed first on uneven bars, balance beam and in the all-around. She won three gold medals on uneven bars, floor exercise and the all-around at the Level 8 Regionals.
Anna began competing level 9 in 2011. She finished second in the all-around at the Tampa Bay Turners Invitational. She won the vault title at the Metroplex Challenge. At the Charleston Cup, she placed second in the all-around. Anna placed first on vault and floor exercise at the National Gymnastics Challenge. At the Level 9 State Championships, she placed first on balance beam and in the all-around. She won vault, balance beam and the all-around at the Level 9 Regionals. There, she qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals where she won gold medals on balance beam, floor exercise and the all-around, a bronze medal on vault and a silver medal on uneven bars.
In 2012, Anna started her level 10 season at the Get Your Feet Wet, finishing second on uneven bars. At the Gala, she placed fourth on uneven bars and third on balance beam. She traveled to Florida for the Sand Dollar Invitational, finishing second on uneven bars. At the Metroplex Challenge in Texas, Anna placed fourth in the all-around, second on uneven bars and first on balance beam. She earned a silver medal on uneven bars at the Charleston Cup and National Gymnastics Challenge. At the Level 10 State Championships, Anna finished ninth in the all-around, fourth on uneven bars and fifth on floor exercise. She finished seventh in the all-around and third on uneven bars at the Region 8 Championships, qualifying to the Junior Olympic Nationals. At the Nationls in Hampton, VA, Anna finished seventh on uneven bars.
Currently, Anna trains about 23 hours per week at Southeastern Gymnastics under coaches Ludmilla Shobe and Galina Meliakina. She is preparing for the upcoming 2013 season as a level 10 gymnast.
