Ashlyn Johnson was born on March 4, 2000 in Gainesville, Florida to Jeff and Melissa Johnson. She has a sister, Mason, two dogs named Rusty and Princess and a tortoise, Dash. Currently, Ashlyn is a senior at Oak Hall School and she will graduate from high school in the spring of 2018.
Ashlyn had a lot of energy when she was a toddler, so her mom decided to enroll her into gymnastics at 18 months old in "Mommy and Me" classes. She started her competitive gymnastics career at Black Diamond Gymnastics and Sports Center in Park City, Utah training under coaches Charity Christensen and Katy Heddens.
As a level 6 gymnast in 2009, Ashlyn finished sixth in the all-around and fourth on vault, balance beam and floor exercise at the State Championships. She moved up to level 7 for the 2010 and 2011 seasons. During the 2011 season, she placed third on vault and second on balance beam at the Battle in Seattle. At the Vegas Cup, she earned silver medals on vault and balance beam and finished fifth in the all-around.
In 2012 as a level 8 gymnast, Ashlyn placed fifth in the all-around, second on floor exercise and fourth on uneven bars and balance beam at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 1 Championships. In the summer of 2012, Ashlyn and her family moved back to Florida and Ashlyn started training at Sun Country Gymnastics in Gainesville, FL.
Ashlyn continued competing level 9 for the 2013 season. At the State Championships, she placed seventh in the all-around, second on balance beam and first on floor exercise. Ashlyn finished 13th in the all-around, second on floor exercise and fifth on balance beam at the Region 8 Championships. After the 2013 season, Ashlyn started training at Brandy Johnson's Global Gymnastics in Clermont, FL.
In 2014 as a level 9 gymnast, Ashlyn finished third in the all-around, second on uneven bars and first on floor exercise at the State Championships. She did really well at the Region 8 Championships where she finished sixth in the all-around and first on floor exercise. She qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals, finishing 17th in the all-around, eighth on uneven bars and fifth on floor exercise.
As a first-year level 10 gymnast in 2015, Ashlyn placed seventh in the all-around at the State Championships and qualified to the Region 8 Championships. In 2016, Ashlyn finished fifth in the all-around and fifth on uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise at the State Championships. At the Region 8 Championships, she placed 14th overall with a 36.750 and fifth on balance beam. In 2017, Ashlyn finished second in the all-around with a 37.125, first on uneven bars, second on floor exercise and third on balance beam at the State Championships. At the Region 8 Championships, she placed 13th overall with a 36.550 and sixth on uneven bars with a 9.425.
Ashlyn trains 25-30 hours per week at Sun Country Gymnastics in Gainesville, FL under coach Mary Carlson. Ashlyn is working hard to reach her goal to obtain a college scholarship to a Division 1 school.
