Ashlynn "AJ" Sullivan was born on June 12, 2001 in Plano, TX. AJ has two siblings; Brandon and Hayden and a Miniature Schnauzer named Abbie. AJ is an honor student at Lovejoy High School and she will graduate in 2019. She was a member of National Junior Honor Society. She has earned numerous school awards, such as Outstanding Student for Algebra I in 9th grade and Student of the Year in 7th grade. When AJ has time outside of gymnastics, she enjoys crafts, baking, fishing and swimming.
When AJ was two years old, her mother realized how quiet the house was and did not see her in the play area. She walked around the corner to go up the steps to see if AJ went upstairs and found her sitting on the third step up, in a straddle pointing her toes trying to touch the edges of the walls. AJ was very flexible and her mom decided to enroll her into gymnastics when she's four years old in 2005.
As a level 5 gymnast in 2009, AJ finished first in the all-around with a 38.775 and first on balance beam and floor exercise at the State Championships. She moved up to level 6 for the 2010 season where she earned gold medals on balance beam and floor exercise at the State Championships. In 2012, Ashlynn finished second in the all-around with a 38.200, first on balance beam and floor exercise and second on vault at the State Championships. As a first-year level 8 gymnast in 2013, AJ placed sixth on balance beam at the State Championships and qualified to the Region 3 Championships. In 2014, AJ earned a bronze medal on balance beam at the Level 8 State Championships. At the Region 3 Championships, she finished fourth on floor exercise.
AJ competed as a level 9 gymnast the next two years. In 2015, she qualified to the Region 3 Championships, finishing seventh on vault. AJ had a great season in 2016 where she won the all-around title with a 37.875 at the State Championships. She also placed first on balance beam and floor exercise, second on uneven bars and fourth on vault. At the Region 3 Championships, AJ finished first in the all-around with a 38.200, first on vault and floor exercise and third on uneven bars and balance beam. She qualified to the Level 9 Western Nationals in Montana where she placed first in the all-around a 37.650, first on balance beam, fifth on uneven bars and seventh on vault.
