Biography : Favorites

Ashton Danielle Kim was born on August 25, 1998 to Paul and Lori Kim. She currently lives in Westlake, Texas with her parents, one brother, Evan (14) and two Shih Tzu's, Lola and Mitzi. Ashton is in eighth grade at the Elite Learning Academy where her favorite school subjects are math and science. Outside of the gym, Ashton likes to hang out with her friends.

Ashton's mom put her into a gymnastics class for fun when she was three years old. She stayed at Sunbelt Gymnastics Academy until she was six years old. She started her gymnastics career at Texas Dreams. Ashton competed level four in September of 2005. She won the uneven bars title at the District Qualifier. In 2006, she competed at the Level 6 State Championships. She finished in the top ten on floor exercise. She made the National TOPs Diamond Level Team in the fall.

In 2007, she made the National TOPs Team. Ashton competed level eight in 2008. She placed fourth on bars at the Rose City Classic. She finished tenth on vault and floor at the Level 8 State Championships. In May, she tested elite compulsories. She made the National TOPs "A" Team in the fall.

She moved up to level nine in 2009. At the Level 9 State Championships, she placed in the top ten on balance beam. In June, she qualified to hopes elite at the Texas Dream Elite Qualifier. She then won vault and uneven bars titles at the Parkettes Elite Qualifier. She finished third in the all-around at the July National Elite Qualifier. At the end of July, Ashton and her Texas Dreams teammates traveled to Des Moines for the US Challenge. Ashton finished second in the all-around and won three medals on vault, uneven bars and floor exercise. At the end of September, Ashton made the TOPs National Team for the third time.

Ashton began her 2010 season at the Arizona Elite Qualifier, where she finished ninth in the all-around and fifth on uneven bars. There, she qualified to junior international elite as well as to the VISA Championships in Hartford, CT. In July, Ashton placed sixth in the all-around at the Texas Elite Qualifier. She then traveled to Chicago, IL for the US Covergirl Classic, where she only did uneven bars. Unfortunately, Ashton was unable to compete at the VISA Championships due to an injury.

Currently, Ashton is training at Texas Dreams in Coppell, TX under coaches Kim Zmeskal-Burdette and Chris Burdette. Ashton is preparing for the upcoming 2012 season. She would like to represent for USA team at the 2016 Olympics.
