Austyn Shea Fobes was born on April 21, 1991 in Red Bank, New Jersey to Tom and Jennifer. Austyn has two brothers, Cody and Payton and a sister, Bayleigh. Bayleigh is also a gymnast. Austyn began gymnastics at the age of three at Devlin Gymnastics in Wall, New Jersey. She switched to Rebound in 2002. In the fall of 2006, she began training at Galaxy Gymnastics with her mom as her coach. She also competed in high school gymnastics. Currently, Austyn is in her second year at the University of Hampshire.
In 2000, she competed as a level six gymnast. She finished fifth in the all-around at the Capital Cup. In 2001, she competed as a level seven. She placed third in the all-around at the Parkette Invitatonal. She moved up to level eight after a few competitions. She competed at the Level 8 State Championships. Austyn repeated level eight in 2002 where she finished fifth in the all-around at the Level 8 State Championships. She moved to Rebound Gymnastics after the 2002 season. Austyn qualified to the National TOPs Team later that year. She also competed at the US Challenge as a child national elite.
Austyn competed as a child national elite in 2003. She competed at the National Elite Podium Meet and Friendship Classic. At the US Challenge, she finished third overall! In 2004, Austyn began the season as a junior pre-elite. Pre-elite was the new name for national elite. She competed at the American Challenge. She also competed at some open invitationals. After the American Challenge, she successfully qualified to junior international elite. Austyn finished fifteenth in the all-around at the US Classic! This qualified her for the US National Championships. At the US Nationals, Austyn made the Junior US National Team.
Unfortunately, Austyn's 2005 season was short due of an injury. She came back in 2006 to re-qualify to junior international elite. She was injured on her second event at the US Classic. In the fall, Austyn competed for her school, Howell High School. She earned all-section honors on every event and the all-around. She won the conference all-around title. Austyn also won the Sectional title. She finished fifth in the all-around at the high school states. She was named Gymnast of the Year.
Austyn, as a junior, continued to expand her high school achievements in 2007. She earned many honors, such as two-time first team all district, two-time first team all shore, two-time team all state. Austyn was also the 2007 Asbury Park Press Gymnast of the Year and 2007 Star Ledger Gymnast of the Year. In 2008 as a level 10 gymnast, she placed fifth in the all-around at the Level 10 State Championships and qualified to the Level 10 Regionals. In 2009, Austyn's senior year in high school, she won the all-around title as well as first on uneven bars and balance beam at the High School Shore Conference, Sectional Championships and State Championships.
In 2010, Austyn helped the UNH gymnastics team to win four competitions. She also helped the team to finish fourth at both EAGL Championships and NCAA Regionals. Austyn placed 19th on vault and 14th on floor exercise at the NCAA Regionals. She was named to the EAGL All-Tournament First Team on vault and Second Team on floor exercise. In 2011, Austyn placed second on uneven bars and fifth in the all-around at the EAGL Championships. She was named to the All-EAGL First Team on floor exercise and all-around as well as Second Team on uneven bars. She was also named to the EAGL All-Tournament First Team on uneven bars and all-around. Austyn competed in the all-around at the NCAA Regionals.
