Austyn began gymnastics at the age of three at Devlin Gymnastics in Wall, New Jersey. She switched to Rebound after 2002 season as a level 8. Austyn qualified to the National TOPs Team later that year. She also competed at the US Challenge as a child national elite. Austyn competed as a child national elite in 2003 where she finished third overall at the US Challenge. Austyn qualified to the Junior US National Team in 2004 after placing 13th overall at the US National Championships. In 2005, Austyn moved to Will-Moor Gymnastics and was injured most of the season. In the fall of 2006, she began training at Galaxy with her mom as her coach. She also competed in high school gymnastics where she earned many honors, such as conference all-around title, sectional title, fifth in the all-around at the High School State's. She also was named Gymnast of the Year. Austyn, as a junior, continued to expand her high school achievements in 2007. Austyn is two-time first team all district, two-time first team all shore, two-time team all state. Austyn was also the 2007 Asbury Park Press Gymnast of the Year and 2007 Star Ledger Gymnast of the Year.
