Drauss was born on November 27, 1998 in Nanchang, China. She was adopted
by her parents, John and Sue Drauss on November 28, 1999. Currently, she
lives in Longwood, Florida with her parents, a dog, Chelsy and a cat,
Chester. Emily is a junior at Lake Brantley High School and she will graduate in 2017.
At the age of two, Emily started taking Mommy and Me
classes. Eventually, Emily was placed on pre-team and after that she was
hooked. She started her competitive gymnastics career at Ace Gymnastics
After the 2007 season, Emily moved to Brandy
Johnson's Global Gymnastics Academy in Clermont, FL. As a level 7 gymnast in 2009, Emily placed sixth in the all-around, first on uneven bars and third on floor exercise at the State Championships. Emily moved
up to level 8 for the 2010 season, where she placed
second on uneven bars, floor exercise and in the all-around as well as
first on balance beam at the State Championships. She was on the Level 8 Florida Team at the Level 8 Regionals, finishing seventh in the all-around, fourth on balance beam and fifth on floor exercise.
As a level 9 gymnast in 2011, Emily finished third on uneven bars and in the all-around at the Tampa Bay Turners Invitational. At the Atlanta Crown Invitational, she finished second in the all-around, first on uneven bars and second on vault and floor exercise. Emily broke her elbow after the Atlanta Crown Invitational and was unable to compete rest of the season.
In 2012, Emily started competing as a level 10 gymnast at the Tampa Bay Turners Invitational where she finished third in the all-around and second on floor exercise. At the National Gymnastics Challenge, she finished fifth in the all-around and third on balance beam. Emily did not compete rest of the season due to a broken foot. In 2013, Emily finished fourth in the all-around, first on balance beam and second on uneven bars at the State Championships. Emily qualified and competed at the Junior Olympic National Invitational Tournament in Minneapolis, MN where she finished fifth in the all-around, fourth on uneven bars and fifth on balance beam.
In 2014, Emily placed second on uneven bars at the Atlanta Crown Invitational. At the Texas Prime Meet, she finished third on uneven bars. She had a solid meet at the Circle of Stars Invitational, finishing third in the all-around, second on uneven bars and fourth on floor exercise. She did not compete post-season due to an injury. Emily came back strong in 2015 where she placed fourth in the all-around with a 37.700, second on uneven bars and third on vault at the State Championships. At the Region 8 Championships, Emily finished tenth in the all-around and fifth on balance beam. She qualified to the Junior Olympic NIT in Des Moines, IA where she placed in the top 12 in the all-around.
In 2016, Emily finished fourth on uneven bars at the State Championships. At the Region 8 Championships, she placed 12th overall and sixth on uneven bars.
Currently, Emily is preparing for the upcoming 2017
season. She is training about 30 hours per week at Brandy Johnson's
Global Gymnastics Academy under coaches Kelly Pitzen and
Brandy Johnson-Scharpf. Emily would like to earn a college scholarship to a Division 1
