Emily Marie Shepard was born on August 24, 2001 in Kansas City, MO to Corey and Phillip Shepard. She has a younger brother, Carter and a younger sister, Camryn. Currently, Emily is a junior at Olathe South High School and will graduate in 2019. She has earned numerous school awards, such as Excellent Algebra 1 Student Award, Academic Honors Award and President's Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence. Outside of gymnastics and school, Emily enjoys baking, sewing, dancing, triathlons and scrapbooking.

Emily started a Mommy and Me gymnastics class at 18 months old. Emily's family moved to Olathe, KS when Emily was four years old and continued doing gymnastics at McCracken’s Gymnastics. She completed level 4 through level 8 at McCracken's Gymnastics and her coach left to pursue a different career. Following her level 8 season, she began training at Diamond Gymnastics Academy.

As a level 6 gymnast in 2012, Emily finished second in the all-around with a 37.750 and first on uneven bars at the State Championships. In 2013, she placed fourth in the all-around with a 38.100 and third on uneven bars at the State Championships. She represented Kansas at the National Judges Cup in Daytona Beach, FL where she placed sixth in the all-around with a 37.400. In 2014, Emily placed third in the all-around with a 37.075 and second on floor exercise at the 2014 Level 8 State Championships, qualifying to the Region 3 Championships.

Emily moved up to level 9 for the 2015 season where she placed second in the all-around and second on uneven bars and balance beam at the State Championships. At the Region 3 Championships, Emily placed eighth in the all-around with a 37.175 and third on uneven bars and balance beam. This qualified Emily to the Level 9 Western Nationals in Spokane, WA. As a second-year level 9 gymnast in 2016, Emily grabbed gold medals on uneven bars, balance beam and in the all-around at the State Championships. At the Region 3 Championships, she won the all-around title with a 37.975, first on balance beam and floor exercise and third on vault and uneven bars. Emily qualified to the Level 9 Western Nationals in Montana for the second time where she placed in the top ten in the all-around. At the team banquet, Emily was awarded Gymnast of the Year.

As a first-year level 10 gymnast in 2017, Emily finished first in the all-around and first on vault and balance beam at the State Championships. At the Region 3 Championships, she placed sixth in the all-around and fourth on balance beam. Emily qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Indianapolis, IN. Emily was named Diamond Gymnast of the Year.

Currently, Emily is preparing for the 2018 season as a level 10 gymnast. She trains 29 hours per week at Diamond Gymnastics Academy in Stilwell, KS under coaches Katja Bullock, Kim Lauderdale-Stepanek and Holly Emmot. Emily is working hard to reach her long-term goal to obtain a Division I college gymnastics scholarship.
