Hailey Marie Merchant was born in Baltimore, MD on June 30, 2003 to Matt and Wendy Merchant. She has two older brothers, Sam and Matt and a cat named Lucky. Hailey is currently in the 9th grade and maintains a 4.0 GPA while training 22 hours a week. During her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and volunteering at The Ronald McDonald House helping other children. Hailey’s goal is to compete for a Division 1 College and study to become a pediatrician.

Hailey’s parents enrolled her in a recreational class at the age of three because she had more energy than she knew what to do with. Hailey fell in love with the sport immediately and she was invited to pre-team and then team shortly after joining at First Class Gymnastics in Annapolis, MD. Following her level 4 season in 2009-2010, Hailey moved to Win-Win Gymnastics in Odenton, MD. As a level 6 gymnast in 2012, Hailey finished fourth in the all-around with a 37.000 and second on balance beam at the State Championships.

In 2013 as a level 7 gymnast, Hailey placed second in the all-around at the State Championships and was named to Maryland State Team. Hailey moved up to level 8 for the 2014 season where she placed second in the all-around with a 37.125, second on uneven bars and fourth on floor exercise. She qualified to the Region 7 Championships, finishing in the top 15 and fourth on floor exercise. In 2015 as a level 9 gymnast, Hailey qualified to the Region 7 Championships.

Hailey moved up level 10 in 2016 and qualified to the State Championships. She was not able to compete all events due to a minor injury. In 2017, Hailey was the Level 10 MD State Bars Champion with a 9.575 and came in fourth in the all-around with a 36.575 and qualified to Regionals. During the 2018 season, Hailey moved to Docksiders Gymnastics in Millersville, MD. At the Level 10 State Championships, Hailey placed fifth in the all-around and first on uneven bars with a 9.675. She finished seventh in the all-around, second on uneven bars and third on vault and floor exercise at the Region 7 Championships. She qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Cincinnati, OH where she placed 19th overall with a 37.575 and first on uneven bars with a 9.625.

In 2019, Hailey placed second in the all-around and second on vault and floor exercise at the State Championships. She qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals after finishing seventh in the all-around and third on uneven bars at the Region 7 Championships. At the JO Nationals in Indianapolis, IN, Hailey finished in the top ten on uneven bars with a 9.600. In 2020, Hailey qualified to the Level 10 State Championships but was unable to compete due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Hailey trains 22 hours per week at Docksiders Gymnastics in Millersville, MD under coaches Bob Oulette, Katie Williams and Jay Barrows. Hailey is working hard to qualify to the Junior Olympic Nationals and obtain a Division I college gymnastics scholarship.
