Hope Nelson was born on November 7, 1998 in Rota, Spain. She currently lives in Newport News, VA with her parents, Tripp and Anna and a younger brother, Ramsey. Hope is an honor student at Menchville High School and she will graduate in 2017. During Hope's spare time, she enjoys yoga where she is a registered hot yoga teacher.

Hope was bored with ballet, so her dad decided to enroll her into gymnastics in 2004 when she was five years old. She fell in love with the sport and started her competitive gymnastics career at World Class Gymnastics in Newport News, VA.

As a level 7 gymnast in 2010, Hope finished second in the all-around with a 37.450, first on floor exercise and second on uneven bars at the State Championships. She moved up to level 8 for the 2011 season where she placed ninth in the all-around with a 36.725 an fourth on balance beam. She qualified to the Region 7 Championships.

In 2012 as a first-year level 9 gymnast, Hope placed second in the all-around with a 36.600, first on floor exercise and third on uneven bars and balance beam at the Region 7 Championships. She qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals where she placed eighth in the all-around and second on floor exercise. In 2013, Hope earned a gold medal on floor exercise at the State Championships. Hope had a great meet at the Region 7 Championships where she placed first in the all-around with a 37.200 and first on balance beam and floor exercise. She qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals for the second time, finishing 13th in the all-around and fifth on balance beam.

Hope competed in level 10 most of the 2014 season, but decided to compete level 9 postseason. She placed third in the all-around with a 37.175 and first on floor exercise at the Region 7 Championships. For the third time, she qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals, finishing fifth in the all-around with a 37.125, first on balance beam and second on floor exercise. As a level 10 gymnast in 2015, Hope placed fourth in the all-around with a 36.950 and fourth on uneven bars and balance beam at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 7 Championships where she finished eighth on balance beam.

In 2016, Hope finished fifth in the all-around, fourth on balance beam and fifth on uneven bars at the State Championships. At the Region 7 Championships, she placed fifth in the all-around with a 37.100, third on uneven bars and fourth on balance beam. Hope qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Ft. Worth, TX.

Currently, Hope is preparing for the 2016-2017 season as a level 10 gymnast. She trains 32 hours per week at World Class Gymnastics in Newport News, VA under coaches Tami Harrison and Darren Webster. Hope is working hard to qualify to the Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup and Junior Olympic Nationals. Her long-term goal is to compete for a Division I college gymnastics team.
