Kaitlyn Rose Bertola was born on August 29, 2001 in Hartford, CT to John and Dorothy Bertola. She has two brothers, Jake and Nicholas and a dog named Miley. Currently, Kaitlyn is a junior at Southington High School and she will graduate from high school in 2019.
Kaitlyn's mom enrolled her into gymnastics for fun when she was three years old. She started her competitive gymnastics career at Gymnastics Unlimited in Bristol, CT and quickly progressed in the sport.
In 2010, Kaitlyn finished third in the all-around and first on uneven bars and floor exercise at the Level 5 State Championships. She tested out level 6 and started competing level 7 for the 2013 season. This was when Kaitlyn began training at American Gymnastics Training Center in Plantsville, CT. She placed sixth in the all-around at the DGS Invitational and third in the all-around at the New Year's Invitational.
As a level 8 gymnast in 2013, Kaitlyn finished fifth in the all-around and fifth on balance beam at the State Championships. At the Region 6 Championships, she placed 13th in the all-around, sixth on balance beam and ninth on vault.
In 2014 as a level 9 gymnast, Kaitlyn finished second in the all-around and second on balance beam and floor exercise at the State Championships. She placed 14th overall at the Region 6 Championships. In 2015, Kaitlyn continued competing level 9. She placed third in the all-around and second on vault and balance beam at the State Championships. At the Region 6 Championships, Kaitlyn finished fifth in the all-around and third on uneven bars and qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals in Kissimmee, FL.
As a first-year level 10 gymnast in 2016, Kaitlyn won the all-around title and earned gold medals on all events at the State Championships. At the Region 6 Championships, she placed fourth in the all-around, fourth on uneven bars and fifth on balance beam. Kaitlyn qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Ft. Worth, TX. In 2017, Kaitlyn earned a bronze medal on uneven bars at the State Championships and Region 6 Championships. She was the second alternate for the Junior Olympic Nationals.
Kaitlyn trains 22 hours per week at John's Academy of Gymnastics in Wallingford, CT under coaches JJ Ferreira and John Morgillo. Kaitlyn would like to qualify to junior international elite as well as to obtain a college scholarship to a Division 1 school.
