Katelyn Barnard was born on July 29, 2001 in Oregon to Michael and Karna Barnard. She has a brother, Spencer and a dog named Bristol. Currently, Katelyn is a junior at Beaverton High School and she will graduate in 2019. Katelyn is a member of National Honor Society.
Katelyn's parents enrolled her in a gymnastics class so she could have some fun and exercise at the same time. She started gymnastics at the age of five at Westside Gymnastics Academy in Tigard, OR and has been there ever since. She competed level 4 in 2009, level 5 in 2010, level 6 in 2011 and level 7 in 2012 and 2013. As a level 8 gymnast in 2014, Katelyn finished eighth in the all-around with a 37.175 and fifth on uneven bars scoring a 9.525 at the Region 2 Championships.
In 2015, Katelyn moved up to level 9 where she qualified to the State Championships but was unable to compete due to an injury. As a first-year level 10 gymnast in 2016, Katelyn placed second in the all-around and second on vault, uneven bars and balance beam at the State Championships. At the Region 2 Championships, she finished third in the all-around and first on balance beam. She qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Ft. Worth, TX. In 2017, Katelyn had a great meet at the State Championships where she placed first in the all-around with a 36.975 and first on all events. She qualified to the Region 2 Championships.
Katelyn trains 22 hours per week at Westside Dance and Gymnastics Academy in Tigard, OR under coaches Drew Grow, Denise Nontavarnit and Jenie Evans. Her long-term goal is to compete for a Division I college gymnastics team.
