Katherine "Katie" McNamara was born on October 4, 2002 in Manhattan Beach, CA to Keith and Patty McNamara. Katie has an older brother, Leyton, a twin sister, Lindy and a family dog named Mochi. Leyton attends Duke University and Lindy is a dancer. Currently, Katie is a junior at Mira Costa High School and she will graduate in 2020. She has over 3.75 GPA. She received the Silver Presidential Bronze Award for Community Service for over 75 hours of service.
Katie was a club soccer player and was annually elected to all-star soccer teams for the State Championships. She even led her league in goals (21 goals in one season!). Katie was a company dancer with her twin sister.
At age two, Katie was doing 360s off her kitchen island to the coffee table, so her parents wanted to put her into a safer environment. She started taking recreational classes at All Olympia Gymnastics Center (AOGC) in Los Angeles, CA and fell in love with the sport.
As a level 4 gymnast in 2010, Katie finished second in the all-around with a 37.550 and first on uneven bars and balance beam at the SoCal State Championships. She moved up to level 5 for the 2011 season where she won the all-around title with a 38.450 at the SoCal State Championships. She also grabbed gold medals on uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise and second on vault. In 2012, Katie finished fifth in the all-around with a 37.150, third on balance beam and fourth on floor exercise at the Level 6 SoCal State Championships.
Katie moved up to level 7 for the 2013 season. She placed in the top ten in the all-around and fifth on uneven bars at the SoCal State Championships. She qualified to the Region 1 Championships, finishing fourth in the all-around with a 38.175 and first on uneven bars. As a level 8 gymnast in 2014, she finished third in the all-around and fourth on balance beam and floor exercise at the Region 1 Championships. Following Katie's level 8 season, she left her long-time gym. As a level 9 gymnast in 2015, Katie earned a bronze medal on floor exercise at the State Championships. She was an alternate for the Level 9 Western Nationals.
In late fall 2015, Katie started training at Gym-Max Gymnastics in Costa Mesa, CA. She started competing level 10 for the 2016 season. She qualified to the State Championships where she placed in the top eight on vault and floor exercise. In 2017, Katie finished seventh on floor exercise at the State Championships and qualified to the Region 1 Championships. Katie returned to All Olympia Gymnastics Center (AOGC) in 2018 and won the floor exercise title at the Region I Championships. She also came in third on balance beam and fifth in the all-around to qualify to the Junior Olympics Nationals. Katie had a successful debut at JO's in Cincinnati, OH and came in ninth on balance beam and 15th on uneven bars.
Upon the closure of AOGC, Katie moved to Wallers' GymJam Academy where she trains 25-30 hours per week in Santa Clarita, CA under coaches Alex Waller, Iryna Krasnyanska and Steve McCain. Katie is working hard to obtain a Division I college gymnastics scholarship.
