Emily's Question: What made you want to be a gymnast?
Kayla's Reply: Of course, when I started at the age of 4 I really didn't know what a flip flop was a backhandspring as well as a type of footwear and a leo was a leotard (what we wore to practice and meets) as well as a zodiac sign of a lion. (I'm a Leo!!!) As I got older and wiser and new what this whole gymnastics thing was about, the reason I wanted to be a gymnast was A) I'D become quite accustomed to flipping and jumping around, B) When you work hard at being good at something it was hard to stop, and C) I loved it!!! Especially watching all my favorite gymnasts on TV (Kim Kmeskal, Lilia Podkopayeva, Dominique Moveanu, Shannon Miller, Andreea Raducan) gave me much inspiration and still do today!!!
Larissa's Question: When you started out in gymnastics were you a natral or did it take you a while to learn how to do gymnastics? How old were you when you started gymnastics?
Kayla's Reply: Larissa Well, I was a natural at some things but, other things a had to work really hard to get. In fact, I was probably the last person on my team to get the "new skill" but, when I finally did get it, it was usually really great. I started gymnastics when I was about 4.
Amy's Question: how did you get started with gymnastics?
Kayla's Reply: Amy My mom did a little gymnastics in high school and she initially put me in classes but, I liked it so much I've been doing it ever since!!!

Kayla's Reply: Lauren I do plan to compete at Championships this year in St. Paul. I'm going to U of A but, I'm deferring this year to see if I can have some more great experiences in the Elite program before I leave for college. Maybe even make a World Team.

Zoe's Question: do you like peanuts? if you do you are cool and if you dont you are still cool.
Kayla's Reply: Yes, actually, I do like peanuts.
Phil's Question: Hi Kayla! How often do you train? Do you lift weights? Your legs look VERY muscular. What do you do to train your legs??
Kayla's Reply: Hey, well, I train 6 days a week and approximately 6-8 hrs. a day. I use wrist and ankle weights on occasion, but most of my conditioning is based on lifting your own body weight. I do some pliometrics, but just training floor exercise and vault keeps my legs in really good shape.
Jens's Question: hi kayla, you seem to have a lot muscles in your arms and stomach-do you do a lot of situps and push/pull ups? how much can you do in a row?
Kayla's Reply: Hey, I have a strict conditioning program that I have done probably since I was 7 yrs. old. It has changed a lot over the years, but it's usually an hour of conditioning every day 6 days a week. Being part of the National Team, there are specific exercises that the whole team trains and is tested on. Depending on your own individual needs, we do extra exercises to target our trouble areas. Plus, the uneven bars keep your arms in good shape, and in order to flip around on all the events you have to keep your stomach really tight. As far as how many sit-ups and push-ups I can do in a row... well, let's just say more than a few! :)
