Keira Boetel was born on March 21, 2002 in Illinois to Tom and Kerry Boetel. She has three younger sisters, Maeve, Nora and Shay. Currently, Keira is an honor student at O’Gorman High School and she will graduate from high school in 2020. Keira has a party planning business on the side where Keira and her friends plan children's birthday parties. She also teaches two gymnastics classes every week to little kids.

Keira started gymnastics at the age of three at a local gym in Illinois because she was very active as a toddler and her mom thought it would be a fun and safe place for her to burn off energy. Keira and her family relocated to South Dakota in 2009, so Keira started training at All American Gymnastics and has been there ever since. At the State Championships in 2013 as a level 7 gymnast, she finished fourth in the all-around, first on floor exercise and second on vault. At the 2014 Level 7 State Championships, she placed first in the all-around with a 38.000 and first on all events.

In 2015, Keira moved up to level 8. At the State Championships, she finished third in the all-around, first on floor exercise and second on vault and balance beam. She was on South Dakota's Super Team for the Region 4 Championships where she finished fourth in the all-around and second on vault and floor exercise. As a first-year level 9 gymnast in 2016, Keira placed second in the all-around and second on balance beam at the State Championships. At the Region 4 Championships, she placed seventh in the all-around and third on vault. She qualified to the Level 9 Western Nationals in Montana. Keira tore her ACL and meniscus the week after Western Nationals in 2016. She underwent surgical repair and was out for ten months.

Keira returned to competition at the end of the February 2017 and managed to compete on all events by the State Championships! At the Level 9 State Championships, she grabbed gold medals on floor exercise and in the all-around, as well as silver medals on vault and balance beam. She did really well at the Region 4 Championships where she placed first in the all-around with a 36.900, first on vault and second on balance beam. She qualified to the Level 9 Western Nationals in Boise, ID for the second time, finishing sixth on vault with a 9.500. She was awarded the South Dakota State Leadership Award for her gym. This is an award given to one gymnast a year and is voted on by the coaches.

In 2019 as a level 10 gymnast, Keira placed fifth in the all-around and second on vault at the State Championships. She finished in the top 10 in the all-around at the Region 4 Championships.

Keira trains over 20 hours per week at All American Gymnastics in Sioux Falls, SD under coaches Gene Luke, Alisha Dykstra, Jason Fitzler, Jorge Franko and Yoshi Nakayama. Keira would like to qualify for the JO Nationals the next few years. Her long-term goal is to compete for a college gymnastics team.
