Kelsey Elizabeth Martz was born on July 17, 1999 in Lima, Ohio to Steve and Dena Martz. She has a sister, Alyssa, a brother, Nick and two yorkie dogs named Heidi and Hanna. Currently, Kelsey is a senior at Delphos St. John School and she will graduate from high school in the spring of 2018. Kelsey is ranked third in her sophomore class with a 4.0 GPA. She is a member of National Honor Society. During Kelsey's spare time, she enjoys reading and drawing.
Kelsey's cousin was a competitive gymnast and she wanted to be like her. She was enrolled into gymnastics classes for fun at the age of three in 2002 and fell in love with the sport. Kelsey trained at Halker's Gold Gymnastics since she was a level 5 gymnast until the summer of 2014.
As a level 6 gymnast in 2010, Kelsey finished first on floor exercise and in the all-around as well as second on vault and balance beam at the State Championships. She moved up to level 7 for the 2011 season. At the State Championships, Kelsey placed first on vault and bars, 2nd on the floor exercise and 4 in the all-around.
In 2012 as a level 8 gymnast, Kelsey finished second in the all-around with a 37.225, first on uneven bars and floor exercise and second on balance beam at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 5 Championships as a State Team member where she placed fourth in the all-around with a 36.925 and fifth on balance beam.
As a first-year level 9 gymnast in 2013, Kelsey concluded her season at the State Championships with a third place on balance beam, but did not participate in the all-around. In 2014, Kelsey finished third in the all-around and first on vault and floor exercise at the State Championships. She earned a gold medal on balance beam at the Region 5 Championships.
Kelsey moved up to level 10 for the 2015 season. She placed seventh on floor exercise and eighth on vault at the State Championships. In April 2015, Kelsey began training at New Heights Gymnastics in Wausseon, OH. In 2016, Kelsey finished eighth in the all-around and fifth on balance beam at the State Championships. She placed in the top ten on uneven bars at the Region 5 Championships. Kelsey finished fifth in the all-around with a 36.825 and third on floor exercise scoring a 9.500 at the 2017 State Championships. She qualified to the Region 5 Championships.
Currently, Kelsey is preparing for the upcoming 2018 season. She trains 20-22 hours per week at New Heights Gymnastics in Wausseon, OH under coaches Amy Nyman, Nick Distel and Jill Kovnesky. Kelsey is working hard to reach her goal to obtain a college scholarship to a Division 1 school.
