Dakoda (Koda) Lemelin is the middle daughter of Greg and Meg Lemelin, born on August 20, 2002. Koda has an older sister, Kyndal, who recently graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a younger sister, Rexi. Koda is an honor student at AL Brown High School and will graduate in 2020. She is involved in a number of activities at her school including National Honor Society, the competitive Varsity Cheer Squad, Robotics club, Beta club, Anchor club and Student Council. She also was elected by her high school to participate in the HOBY Leadership Camp the summer of 2018.
Koda started gymnastics at the age of three. She immediately loved the excitement and challenge of the sport. Lake Norman Gymnastics Academy has been her gym home since her fourth year of competing. Each year of competition, Koda has qualified for the State Championships. In 2017, Koda had her first injury which would sit her out of the majority of her season. With limited practice, Koda competed at the 2017 State Championships, placing first on balance beam with a 9.125 and second in the all-around with a 36.625. In the next month, Koda had another injury which kept her out until mid-summer. Prior to her level 8 season starting in early 2018, Koda worked to get back from her injuries and moved forward in skills. She qualified for the 2018 State Championship and placed fourth on vault.
Koda trains about 20-22 hours weekly at Lake Norman Gymnastics Academy in Denver, NC under her coaches Danielle Taffi Johnson and Greg Lemelin, as well as spends about 6-8 hours practicing with her competitive Varsity Cheer squad. Koda’s goal is to continue using her gymnastics skills in gymnastics with specialized events or related sports such as cheerleading or acro & tumbling at a university level.
