Lainie Belle Baumgardner was born on August 23, 2002 in North Carolina to Lee and Tracey Baumgardner. She has a sister, Madison, a brother, Jake and a dog named Scout. Currently, Lainie is in tenth grade at Cuthbertson High School and she will graduate in 2020. When Lainie is not busy training in the gym she enjoys cooking, painting, kayaking/paddleboarding on the lake and visiting the local animal shelter.
Before finding her love for gymnastics, Lainie tried other sports/activities and did not like anything. When Lainie was eight years old, her mom’s friend suggested she put Lainie in gymnastics. Lainie went to a gymnastics camp and found her passion and quickly progressed through the sport. She trained at Sonshine Gymnastics in Holly Springs, NC for four years between 2012-2016. As a level 5 gymnast in the fall of 2012, Lainie finished third in the all-around and third on uneven bars at the State Championships. She tested out of level 6 in 2013 and started competing level 7 for the 2014 season. At the State Championships, Lainie finished 11th in the all-around with a 36.875.
As a level 8 gymnast in 2015, Lainie finished in the top ten in the all-around and fifth on vault at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships where she placed in the top ten on vault and floor exercise. Lainie moved up to level 9 for the 2016 season. She finished second in the all-around with a 37.350, first on balance beam and second on vault at the State Championships. At the Region 8 Championships, Lainie placed third on vault and fourth on floor exercise. In the fall of 2016, Lainie's dad took a new job in South Carolina, so Lainie moved to Southeastern Gymnastics in Weddington, NC.
In 2017 as a first-year level 10 gymnast, Lainie earned a gold medal on vault at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships where she finished third on balance beam and seventh on vault.
Currently, Lainie is training 10 for the 2018 season. She trains over 20 hours per week at Southeastern Gymnastics in Weddington, NC training under coaches Ludmilla Shobe and Sofia Managadze. She would like to obtain a Division I college gymnastics scholarship.
