Lauren Elizabeth Mara Maxwell was born on May 24, 2000 in Simi Valley, CA to Jason and Michelle Maxwell. She has an older sister, Taylor and two dogs named Raj and Penny. Currently, Lauren is a senior at Carlmont High School and she will graduate in 2018. During Lauren's spare time, she enjoys drawing, painting, sewing and fashion design.
Lauren had a lot of energy, so her mom decided to enroll her into gymnastics for fun a week before Lauren turned six years old. She quickly progressed in the sport and competing as a level 4 gymnast in 2007. As a level 5 gymnast in 2008, she placed third on vault and sixth in the all-around at the NorCal State Championships. In 2009, Lauren placed fourth on balance beam at the Level 6 NorCal State Championships.
She moved up to level 7 for the 2011 season, Lauren finished eighth in the all-around, third on vault and fifth on balance beam at the NorCal State Championships. In 2012, Lauren moved up to level 8 where she placed eighth in the all-around and fifth on floor exercise at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 1 Championships. Lauren continued competing level 8 in 2013. She placed in the top five at the Golden State Classic, WOGA Classic, Byers Invitational and Delta Invitational. Lauren tore her hamstring two weeks before the State Championships and was limited to three events at the Regionals.
In 2014 as a third-year level 8 gymnast, Lauren placed first in the all-around with a 37.925 as well as first on floor exercise, second on balance beam, third on uneven bars and fourth on vault at the State Championships. Lauren had the fifth highest all-around score of all level 8s at the State Championships. She made the State Team and qualified as one of the top 12 gymnast of NorCal to compete in the special session at the Region 1 Championships. At the Regionals, she placed third in the all-around with a 38.000, third on uneven bars, fourth on floor exercise, fifth on balance beam and sixth on vault.
Lauren moved up to level 9 for the 2015 season. At the State Championships, she placed sixth on uneven bars and qualified to the Region 1 Championships. In 2016, Lauren finished in the top two in the all-around at the Winter Invitational and Elevate Invitational. She placed sixth on floor exercise at the Region 1 Championships. In September 2017, Lauren left her long-time gym and moved to Accel Gymnastics in Burlingame, CA.
Lauren trains 26 hours per week at Accel Gymnastics in Burlingame, CA under coaches Kelly Alliger Keane, Jim Li Lin Way and Matt Hodges. Lauren is working hard to reach her long-term goal to compete for a college gymnastics team.
