Lillian "Lily" Smith was born on January 13, 2001 in China. She currently lives in Garrett Park, MD with her parents, John and Lisa Smith and two dogs named Romeo and Henry. Lily has two older sisters, Alison (In veterinary school) and Margot (A student at the University of Pittsburgh). Currently, Lily is an honor student at Walter Johnson High School and she will graduate from high school in 2019.
Lily has always been so flexible since she was a toddler. Her parents decided to enroll her into recreational gymnastics for fun. Lily started her competitive gymnastics career at MarVaTeens Gymnastics in North Bethesda, MD. As a level 4 gymnast in 2011, Lily placed fourth in the all-around at the State Championships. At the 2012 Level 5 State Championships, she won the all-around title with a 37.700 and placed first on uneven bars and balance beam. Lily qualified to the Level 6 State Championships in 2013.
In 2014 as a level 7 gymnast, Lily placed second in the all-around with a 37.025, first on balance beam and second on floor exercise at the State Championships. In 2015, she placed first in the all-around with a 37.350, first on uneven bars and second on floor exercise at the Level 7 State Championships. In the summer of 2015, Lily started training at HIll's Gymnastics in Gaithersburg, MD.
Lily moved up to level 8 for the 2016 season. At the State Championships, she finished third in the all-around, first on balance beam and third on uneven bars. She qualified to the Region 7 Championships, finishing first on balance beam with a 9.450. As a first-year level 9 gymnast in 2017, Lily placed fourth in the all-around and fourth on balance beam at the State Championships, qualifying to Regionals.
Lily trains 22 hours per week at Hill's Gymnastics in Gaithersburg, MD under coaches Katrina Evanoff and Juba Ra-Akbar. Lily's long-term goal is to compete for a college gymnastics team.
