Mackenzie Vance was born on May 1, 2000 in Overland Park, KS to Tyler and Andrea Vance. She has three younger sisters, Katelynn, Kelly and Alyssa. Currently, Mackenzie is a senior at Jack C. Hays High School. She is in the academically gifted program since she was eight years old. She has earned straight A's since kindergarten. During Mackenzie's spare time, she enjoys singing and art.
Mackenzie was attempting to do back handspring off the couch and always loved to be upside down from infancy. Therefore, her parents decided to enroll her into gymnastics at the age of three at Diamond Gymnastics. At the beginning of her gymnastics career, she trained under coaches Dan Bruring, Jerry Murphy and Shannon Turner. She has been training at Kansas Gymnastics & Cheer (KGDC) since level 6 where she trained under coaches Anne Heffernon, Jennifer Green and James Sampel.
As a first-year level 8 gymnast in 2011, Mackenzie qualified to the Regionals. She continued competing level 8 in 2012 where she finished second in the all-around with a 37.975, first on uneven bars and third on vault, balance beam and floor exercise at the State Championships. At the Region 3 Championships, she placed third in the all-around with a 38.275 and first on uneven bars scoring a 9.850.
In 2013, Mackenzie moved up to level 9. At the State Championships, she placed fifth in the all-around and third on balance beam and floor exercise. She qualified to the Region 3 Championships, finishing eighth on balance beam. In 2014, Mackenzie finished third on vault and in the all-around at the Level 9 State Championships. She concluded her season at the Region 3 Championships where she placed eighth on uneven bars.
As a first-year level 10 gymnast in 2015, Mackenzie placed sixth in the all-around at the State Championships. At the Region 3 Championships, she finished 12th in the all-around and seventh on floor exercise. She qualified to the Junior Olympic NIT in Des Moines, IA where she placed in the top ten in the all-around. In July 2015, Mackenzie and her family relocated to Austin, TX, so Mackenzie started training at Olympia Hills Gymnastics in Buda, TX. Mackenzie was unable to compete in 2016 due to an injury.
Currently, Mackenzie is preparing for the upcoming 2017 season as a level 10 gymnast. She trains 27 hours per week at Olympia Hills Gymnastics in Buda, TX under coaches Jeff Beal and Van Wright. She would like to obtain a Division I college gymnastics scholarship.
