Marisol Perez-Banus was born on February 23, 2000 in Chile to Mar Banus and Mario Perez. When Marisol was two years old, her family moved to Mexico for two years before moving to USA when she was four years old. Therefore, Marisol has Chilean-Mexician dual citizenship.
Marisol qualified to the State Championships in level 7 in 2011 and level 8 in 2012. She moved up to level 9 for the 2013 season where she placed seventh in the all-around and third on floor exercise at the State Championships. At the Region 5 Championships, Marisol finished seventh in the all-around, fourth on uneven bars and fifth on floor exercise. She was named first alternate for the Level 9 Eastern Nationals.
As a first-year level 10 gymnast in 2014, Marisol placed ninth in the all-around and fourth on balance beam at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships, finishing sixth on floor exercise. In the summer of 2014, Marisol competed at the elite level in Mexico where she finished second in the all-around at Regionals and 12th in the all-around at the Nationals. She qualified to the Mexican Olympic Nationals, finishing 14th overall. She qualified to the event finals where she placed fourth on balance beam and fifth on floor exercise.
In 2015, Marisol finished third in the all-around and second on floor exercise at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships. In the summer, Marisol finished fifth in the all-around at the Mexican Regionals and 14th in the all-around at the Mexican Nationals. At the Mexican Olympic Nationals, Marisol placed 13th in the all-around, fourth on balance beam and sixth on vault. Marisol also represented Chile at the South American Championships in Argentina where she finished seventh in the all-around. She qualified to the event finals, finishing second on balance beam and sixth on uneven bars and floor exercise. In 2016, Marisol finished fourth in the all-around, second on floor exercise and third on uneven bars and balance beam at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships but was unable to compete due to representing a different country in 2015.
Currently, Marisol is preparing for the 2017 season as a level 10 gymnast. She trains 31 hours per week at Excalibur Gymnastics in Virginia Beach, VA under coaches Gustavo Moure and Dena Walker. Marisol's long-term goal is to compete for a college gymnastics team.
