Maya had way too much energy as a little child, so her parents decided to enroll her into gymnastics when she was two years old. She started her competitive gymnastics career at World Class Gymnastics Academy in Latham, NY. Maya competed level 5 in 2009 and level 6 in 2010 and 2011.

As a level 7 gymnast in 2012, Maya placed in the top ten in the all-around and earned a silver medal on vault at the State Championships. She moved up to level 8 for the 2013 season where she finished third in the all-around with a 37.150, second on vault and third on uneven bars at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 6 Championships, finishing ninth in the all-around and first on uneven bars.

In 2014 as a first-year level 9 gymnast, Maya placed third on vault at the State Championships and qualified to Region 6 Championships. In 2015, she finished third in the all-around and third on floor exercise at the State Championships. At the Region 6 Championships, she placed fourth in the all-around and third on floor exercise. She qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals in Kissimmee, FL. In 2016, Maya's final level 9 season, she placed third on floor exercise at the State Championships. At the Region 6 Championships, she finished fifth in the all-around and third on vault and floor exercise. Maya qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals for the second time in Virginia Beach, VA.

In January 2017, Maya left her long-time gym and moved to Ace Gymnastics in Albany, NY. She moved up to level 10 for the 2017 season. She finished fourth in the all-around, second on balance beam and third on vault at the State Championships, She qualified to the Region 6 Championships.

Maya trains 24 hours per week at Ace Gymnastics in Albany, NY under coaches Bob Piehler and Joanne Piehler. Maya is working hard to become a successful level 10 gymnast as well as to obtain a Division I college gymnastics scholarship.
