McKenzee started gymnastics when she was nine years old. She had just started cheerleading that year and she wanted to become a better tumbler. Her friend was taking gymnastics classes and she asked her parents if they could sign her up. McKenzee did an intermediate class for a month and was asked to join their team. She competed at a local gym for one year and had already fallen in love with the sport. McKenzee told her parents that she wanted to be good and asked to move to a gym that had a more competitive program. McKenzee has been at All American Gymnastics Academy since June of 2012.

McKenzee was on Super Team for the Region 4 Championships where she finished in the top ten in the all-around, third on floor exercise and fifth on balance beam.

As a first-year level 9 gymnast in 2016, McKenzee grabbed gold medals on balance beam, floor exercise and in the all-around at the State Championships. At the Region 4 Championships, she placed eighth in the all-around and sixth on vault and balance beam. She was the first alternate for the Level 9 Western Nationals.
