McKenzee Danielson was born on June 22, 2002 in South Dakota to Chad and Delana Danielson. She has a brother, Levi, a dog named Bailey and tons of cows, chickens and cats! McKenzee is an honor student at Harrisburg High School and she will graduate from high school in 2020. She was named Student of the Month each year throughout elementary school and middle school.
McKenzee started gymnastics when she was nine years old. She had just started cheerleading that year and she wanted to become a better tumbler. Her friend was taking gymnastics classes and she asked her parents if they could sign her up. McKenzee did an intermediate class for a month and was asked to join their team. She competed at a local gym for one year and had already fallen in love with the sport. McKenzee told her parents that she wanted to be good and asked to move to a gym that had a more competitive program. McKenzee has been at All American Gymnastics Academy since June of 2012.
As a level 5 gymnast in 2013, McKenzee finished first in the all-around and first on floor exercise at the State Championships. She skipped level 6 and moved up to level 7 for the 2014 season. She finished second in the all-around with a 37.475, first on vault and floor exercise and second on balance beam at the State Championships. McKenzee had a great season as a level 8 gymnast in 2015 where she finished second in the all-around and second on balance beam and floor exercise at the State Championships. McKenzee was on Super Team for the Region 4 Championships where she finished in the top ten in the all-around, third on floor exercise and fifth on balance beam.
As a first-year level 9 gymnast in 2016, McKenzee grabbed gold medals on balance beam, floor exercise and in the all-around at the State Championships. At the Region 4 Championships, she placed eighth in the all-around and sixth on vault and balance beam. She was the first alternate for the Level 9 Western Nationals. McKenzee continued competing level 9 in 2017. At the State Championships, she finished second in the all-around, first on balance beam and second on floor exercise. She placed second in the all-around, third on balance beam and fourth on vault, uneven bars and floor exercise at the Region 4 Championships. McKenzee qualified to the Level 9 Western Nationals in Boise, ID where she placed seventh in the all-around with a 37.125 and fourth on balance beam.
In 2018, McKenzee moved up to level 10. She placed first in the all-around and second on uneven bars and floor exercise at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 4 Championships where she placed fourth on vault with a 9.400.
McKenzee trains 20-30 hours per week at All American Gymnastics in Sioux Falls, SD under coaches Gene Luke, Alisha Dykstra, Donald Otis and Jason Fitzler. McKenzee's long-term goal is to compete for a college gymnastics team.
