Melina’s mom enrolled her at Team Central Gymnastics Academy at the age of four in the "Jumpin’ Gymanies" class. She quickly caught the eye of the team coaches and was invited to join the team program at the Pilot Level (just below level 4). Melina has been training at Team Central her whole gymnastics career.
As a level 7 gymnast in 2012, Melina finished sixth in the all-around, first on floor exercise, third on balance beam and fourth on vault at the State Championships. She continued competing level 7 in 2013 where she placed second in the all-around with a 37.775, first on floor exercise, second on vault and third on uneven bars.
Melina moved up to level 8 for the 2014 season where she earned a silver medal on vault at the State Championships. She won the all-around title with a 37.475 at the Region 4 Championships. She also earned gold medals on uneven bars and floor exercise. She was unable to compete in 2015 due to an injury. As a level 9 gymnast in 2016, Melina finished first in the all-around and first on all events at the State Championships. At the Region 4 Championships, she placed third in the all-around, second on balance beam and floor exercise and third on vault. Melina qualified to the Level 9 Western Nationals in Montana where she placed seventh on floor exercise. In 2017, Melina earned gold medals on vault, uneven bars, floor exercise and in the all-around at the State Championships and Region 4 Championships. She qualified to the Level 9 Western Nationals in Boise, ID, finishing second in the all-around with a 37.375. She also placed first on uneven bars and second on balance beam and floor exercise.
Currently, Melina is preparing for the 2018 season as a level 9/10 gymnast. She trains 23 hours per week at Team Central Gymnastics Academy in Maryland Heights, MO under coaches Tom Stevens and Amy Roberts. Melina would like to continue gymnastics at the collegiate level.
