Michel Koch was born on April 20, 2000 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico to Carlos and Paulina Koch. She has two sisters, Rebeca and Sarah and one brother, David. Currently, Michel is a senior at Texas Connections Academy and she will graduate from high school in 2018. Michel enjoys painting during her spare time.

Michel started taking gymnastics classes when she was seven years old at a local gym in Guadalajara, Mexico. Michel and her family relocated to the United States in 2010, so she started training at World Olympic Gymnastics Academy (WOGA) in Plano, TX and has been there ever since.

Three short years later after she started gymnastics, Michel started competing level 7 in 2011. She placed fourth in the all-around, first on balance beam and second on uneven bars at the Rose City Classic. At the State Championships, Michel finished second in the all-around with a 38.225, first on balance beam and third on uneven bars.

Michel moved up to level 8 for the 2012 season. At the State Championships, she finished ninth in the all-around and third on uneven bars. She qualified to the Region 3 Championships. In 2013 as a level 9 gymnast, Michel earned a silver medal on balance beam with a 9.550 at the State Championships and Region 3 Championships. Michel continued competing level 9 for the 2014 season. Michel had a great meet at the State Championships, finishing first in the all-around with a 38.425, first on balance beam, second on vault and uneven bars and third on floor exercise. At the Region 3 Championships, Michel placed first in the all-around with a 38.500, first on vault, uneven bars and balance beam and second on floor exercise at the Region 3 Championships. This qualified Michel to the Level 9 Western Nationals where she placed tenth in the all-around, first on balance beam and second on floor exercise.

As a first-year level 10 gymnast in 2015, Michel placed third in the all-around with a 38.125 and first on uneven bars and balance beam at the State Championships. At the Region 3 Championships, she placed seventh in the all-around and first on balance beam. She qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Des Moines, IA where she placed in the top 25 in the all-around, eighth on balance beam and 16th on uneven bars.

In 2016, Michel finished seventh in the all-around with a 37.050 and third on uneven bars at the State Championships. At the Region 3 Championships, she placed sixth in the all-around, second on uneven bars and fourth on balance beam. She qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Ft. Worth, TX for the second time, finishing 13th on balance beam. In 2017, Michel finished ninth in the all-around and third on uneven bars with a 9.375.

Currently, Michel is preparing for the 2018 season. She trains 36 hours per week at World Olympic Gymnastics Academy (WOGA) in Plano, TX under coaches Janelle McDonald and Livia Ponoran. Michel is working hard to reach her goals to compete internationally for the Mexican national gymnastics team as well as to obtain a Division I college gymnastics scholarship.
