Napualani, or Pua as she is known in the gymnastics world, began gymnastics at the age of seven. Her younger sister was taking a few pre-school classes and Pua thought that her classes looked like fun. She decided to give gymnastics a try.
Pua started her competitive gymnastics career at Hawaiian Island Twisters (HITS) under coaches Joe Rapp, Jamey Gossett and Lori Yee. In 2002, Pua won the all-around title as well as vault and uneven bars at the Aloha Classic. At the end of that year, she placed first in the all-around, uneven bars and floor exercise at the Level 4 Hawaii State Meet. In 2003, during Pua's last year at HITS, Pua competed as a level 5 at the Pot 'O Gold, where she won the all-around title. She then grabbed all-around titles at the Aloha Classic, HITS Fall Fest and Pegasus Cup as a level 6. Pua also made the TOPS National Team that year.
In January 2004, Pua moved to Ohio and trained at the Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy (CGA) for a brief period of time. While she was there, she won the level 7 all-around state title. In the summer of 2004, Pua and her family moved to Kansas City, Missouri to train at Great American Gymnastics Express (GAGE).
As a level 9 in 2005, Pua started her season at Dragon Invitational, where she finished third in the all-around. At the Mardi Gras Invitational, she finished first in the all-around. She then placed eighth in the all-around and fourth on uneven bars at the Level 9 Regionals. There she qualified to Level 9 Western Championships. In 2006, Pua competed a second year as a level 9. She won the all-around, vault and uneven bars titles at the Level 9 State Championships. She then finished third in the all-around and first on vault and uneven bars at the Level 9 Regionals. At the Level 9 Western Championships, she finished ninth in the all-around.
Pua moved up to level 10 in 2007. She competed at the WOGA Classic and Dragon Invitational in the beginning of 2007. She finished first all-around in the all-around at both competitions. At the Level 10 State Championships, she placed first on balance beam and floor exercise as well as second on vault, uneven bars and in the all-around. Pua had a fall on balance beam but still grabbed the all-around title and advanced to the Junior Olympic Nationals. At the 2007 Junior Olympic Nationals, she finished 36th in the all-around.
During Pua’s last year as a level 10 in 2008, she started her season at the Dragon Invitational, where she finished second in the all-around as well as first on uneven bars. At the Level 10 State Championships, she finished second on everything except for vault, where she won a gold medal. Pua then finished second in the all-around at the Level 10 Regionals and qualified to her second JO Nationals in Florida. Pua improved her results from previous year at the 2008 JO Nationals, where she finished ninth in the all-around as well as 14th on vault and floor exercise.
In February 2009, Pua began training at Texas Dreams Gymnastics in Texas. Pua's first meet with the new gym was at the National Gym Challenge in Atlanta, Georgia. There, she finished fourth in the all-around and first on vault. At the Level 10 Texas State Championships, she finished third in the all-around, first on floor exercise and third on vault and uneven bars. Pua qualified to junior pre-elite at the Region 3 Qualifier after placing fifth in the all-around. Pua and her elite teammates traveled to Allentown, PA for the Parkette Elite Qualifier. Pua placed fourth in the all-around and third on vault. There, she qualified to junior international elite. In July, it was off to July Elite Qualifier in Hunstville, Texas. She placed fourth in the all-around, second on floor exercise and first on vault. At the US Covergirl Classic in Des Moines, Iowa, Pua finished 22nd in the all-around and seventh on vault. There, she qualified to her first Junior VISA Championships in Dallas, Texas. In Dallas, Pua finished 14th in the all-around, ninth on floor exercise and 10th on vault in a very tough group of competitors!
Pua was unable to compete uneven bars in the beginning of 2010 season due to a minor injury. At the Texas Prime Meet, she placed second on vault and balance beam. She traveled to Ohio for the Buckeye Classic, where she finished third on vault and fourth on floor exercise. Pua qualified to the VISA Championships in Hartford, CT at the Arizona National Elite Qualifier. There, she placed fourth in the all-around, second on vault and fourth on floor exercise. After the Arizona meet, Pua moved back to Missouri and began training at KGDC. In July, Pua traveled to Chicago, IL for the US Covergirl Classic, here she placed 11th on vault and 23rd in the all-around. At the VISA Championships, Pua finished 14th on vault and 21st on floor exercise out of 40 gymnasts.
In 2011, Pua began her season at the New Year Invitational where she placed second in the all-around and first on vault with a 9.9. At the Gliders National Elite Qualifier, she won the all-around title as well as first on vault and second on uneven bars and floor exercise. She then traveled to Dallas, Texas for the WOGA National Elite Qualifier where she placed third in the all-around and qualified to senior international elite. A few weeks later, she placed second in the all-around with a 38.200 at the Pink Ribbon Invitational. On the next day she qualified to vault and floor exercise event finals where she placed first on vault with a 9.9 and second on floor exercise. In July, she won a bronze medal on vault at the American Classic. She was unable to compete the rest of the season due to a knee injury.
Currently, Pua is training at Kansas Gymnastics and Cheer (KGDC) under coaches Annie Duncan and James Sampel. Pua is training hard for the upcoming 2012 season as a level 10 gymnast. Pua's long-term goal is to receive a full ride scholarship to a Division I school.
Napualani Keoloha Hall was born September 1, 1995 in Hawaii. She is the oldest of four children of Shane and Jennifer Hall where she has three sisters and one brother. Currently, Pua is a sophomore at North Kansas City High School. She will graduate from high school in 2014. During Pua's spare's time, she loves hanging out with her friends.
