Renee Schugman was born on April 6, 2002 in New York to Robert and Leslie Schugman. She has a brother, Robert, a sister, Lauren and a cat named Chester. Currently, Renee is an honor student at Smithtown High School East and she will graduate from high school in 2020. During Renee's spare time, she enjoys baking.

Renee took dance classes but she did not enjoy it, so she decided to give gymnastics a try and fell in love with the sport. She started her competitive gymnastics career at Eastern Gymnastics Center in Nesconset, NY. When she was there, Renee finished fourth on uneven bars with a 9.525 at the 2012 Level 5 State Championships. Following Renee's level 5 season, she moved to GMGC Smithtown and has been there ever since.

In 2013, Renee finished third in the all-around and third on uneven bars at the Level 6 State Championships. She moved up to level 7 for the 2014 season where she won the all-around title with a 37.575 and placed first on uneven bars and second on vault at the State Championships. As a level 8 gymnast in 2015, Renee placed first in the all-around with a 37.125, first on floor exercise and second on uneven bars at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 6 Championships, finishing first in the all-around with a 37.850, first on balance beam and second on floor exercise.

Renee moved up to level 9 in 2016 where she placed third in the all-around and first on balance beam and floor exercise at the State Championships. At the Region 6 Championships, she finished second in the all-around and first on balance beam and floor exercise. Renee qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals in Virginia Beach, VA where she placed 11th in the all-around and fourth on balance beam. As a first-year level 10 gymnast in 2017, Renee finished fourth in the all-around and third on floor exercise at the Region 6 Championships. She qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Indianapolis, IN.

In 2018, Renee placed second in the all-around at the Big Apple Classic, Hilton Head Island Invitational and Heartland Classic. She was unable to compete at the State Championships due to an injury. In 2019, Renee placed second on floor exercise at the State Championships. At the Region 6 Championships, she finished first on balance beam, floor exercise and in the all-around with a 37.000. She qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Indianapolis, IN.

Renee trains 24 hours per week at New Image Gymnastics in Edgewood, NY under coach Sara Harper. Renee will join Template University gymnastics team during the 2020-2021 school year.
