Samantha Renee' Smith was born on January 6, 2000 in Olympia, WA to Adrien "Don" Smith and Brenda Kulju. She lives with her dad for part of the week and her mom, step-dad and step-brother for the part of the week. During Sami's spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, singing and playing guitar.

Sami is a senior at Auburn Riverside High School, graduating in the spring of 2018. She is a straight "A" student with honor classes in social studies and language arts. She would like to pursue a career in medicine or education. Sami is a member of National Honor Society.

Sami's parents wanted Sami to have an activity that would channel her energy in a healthy way. She started taking gymnastics classes at the age of four at Auburn Gymnastics Center and has been there ever since.

As a level 7 gymnast in 2010, Sami finished second in the all-around with a 37.225 and third on vault and balance beam at the State Championships. At beginning of the 2011 season, Sami competed level 7 where she placed first on balance beam and in the all-around with a 38.000 at the Holiday Express. At the National Judges Cup, she finished fourth in the all-around and second on floor exercise. Sami started competing as a level 8 gymnast rest of the 2011 season. She finished first on vault and in the all-around at the Battle in Seattle. At the Crystal Cup, she finished fifth in the all-around and first on balance beam. She concluded her season at the MAC Open, finishing second on vault and in the all-around as well as first on floor exercise. Sami qualified to the Level 8 State Championships. In 2012, Sami continued competing level 8 where, she grabbed gold medals on floor exercise and in the all-around. Sami had a great meet at the Region 2 Championships, finishing first on vault, balance beam and in the all-around with a 37.525. At the USA Open Championships, she finished fourth in the all-around and fifth on vault.

Sami moved up to level 9 for the 2013 season. She had a great meet at the State Championships where she placed third in the all-around with a 37.625 and first on floor exercise. At the Region 2 Championships, she finished seventh in the all-around and fourth on vault and balance beam. Sami qualified to the Level 9 Western Nationals, finishing 17th in the all-around. In 2014, Sami placed first on uneven bars, floor exercise and in the all-around with a 37.100 at the Level 9 State Championships. She had a great meet at the Region 2 Championships where she finished first in the all-around with a 37.625 and first on vault, uneven bars and floor exercise. She qualified to the Level 9 Western Nationals for the second time and finished 13th in the all-around and fourth on floor exercise.

As a first-year level 10 gymnast in 2015, Sami placed sixth in the all-around and second on balance beam at the State Championships. She finished fifth in the all-around, first on floor exercise and third on vault and uneven bars at the Region 2 Championships. She qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Des Moines, IA. In 2016, Sami placed sixth in the all-around, first on balance beam and fourth on vault at the State Championships. At the Region 2 Championships, she finished first in the all-around and first on balance beam and floor exercise. Sami qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Ft. Worth, TX where she placed seventh on vault.

In 2017, Sami placed first on vault, floor exercise and in the all-around with a 37.625 at the State Championships. At the Region 2 Championships, she finished first in the all-around, firs ton vault and second on floor exercise. Sami qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Indianapolis, IN, finishing fourth on floor exercise and seventh on vault.

Currently, Sami is preparing for the 2018 season where she hopes to have another successful level 10 season. She trains 22 hours in the winter and 37 hours in the summer. She has been training under coaches Brent Phelps, Lauren Phelps and Jill McGee at Auburn Gymnastics Center her whole gymnastics career. Sami is working hard to reach her goal to compete for a Division 1 college gymnastics team.
