Shea Wheeler was born on January 22, 2001 in Minnesota to Mark and Tris Wheeler. She has a brother, Kaden and two dogs named Nix and Porter. Currently, Shea is an honor student at Osceola Fundamental High School and she will graduate from high school in 2019. She has been on Honor Roll and Principal's List since 2014 and she was lettered in Varsity Diving in 2016. Shea enjoys volunteering and giving back to the community. Recently she biked over 100 miles in two days to raise money for MS and also donated homemade blankets for preemies to her former NICU in St. Paul, MN. When Shea has time outside of gymnastics and school, she enjoys cooking, traveling, road biking and going to the beach.
Shea started gymnastics when she was three years old. She loved going and completing obstacle courses and running around... always with a smile! She started her competitive gymnastics career at Future Flipz Inc in Clearwater, FL. While she was there, she finished third in the all-around with a 37.150 and second on vault, uneven bars and floor exercise at the 2009 Level 4 State Championships. Following her level 5 season in 2010, she moved to LaFleur's Gymnastics Largo in Largo, FL and has been there ever since.
In 2011, Shea finished first in the all-around with a 37.925 and first on vault and balance beam at the 2011 Level 5 State Championships. She moved up to level 7 for the 2014 season where she placed fifth in the all-around, first on balance beam and second on floor exercise at the State Championships. As a level 8 gymnast in 2015, Shea placed second in the all-around and first on vault and floor exercise at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships where she finished tenth in the all-around and third on vault and floor exercise.
Shea moved up to level 9 in 2016. She qualified to the State Championships but was unable to compete due to an injury. She came back in 2017 as a second-year level 9 gymnast. At the Region 8 Championships, Shea finished third in the all-around and second on balance beam. She qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals in Lansing, MI. In 2018, Shea placed first on vault, balance beam and in the all-around at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships.
Shea trains 20 hours per week at LaFleur's Gymnastics Largo in Largo, FL under coaches Melody LaFleur and Nic Tomasette. Shea's long-term goal is to compete for a college gymnastics team.
