Sheridan Sandra Metcalf was born on October 29, 1993 in Denver, Colorado to Laurie and Mern Metcalf. She has a younger sister, Melissa, who is a level 10 gymnast. Currently, Sheridan is in 12th grade at Mt. View High School where she earned several presidential honors awards.
Sheridan first heard about a gymnastics class from a friend, where she began at the age of three. In 2003, Sheridan competed as a level four. She finished third AA at the Desert Devils Classic. She moved up to level five for the fall season. She finished fourth in the all-around at the PGA Halloween Meet. She finished in the top ten at the Level 5 State Championships.
In 2006, Sheridan competed level eight. She finished first in the all-around, vault and balance beam at the Flagstaff Winter Classic. At the Level 8 State Championships, Sheridan finished second in the all-around. She also finished in the top three on vault and floor exercise. Her final meet of the season was Level 8 Regionals, where she finished second on vault, first on balance beam and seventh in the all-around.
Sheridan began her first year as a level 10 gymnast in 2007. She won the vault and uneven bars titles at the Crystal Cup. Sheridan finished third in the all-around at the Fiesta Bowl Invitational. She then traveled to Colorado and competed at the Pikes Peak Cup, where she won a gold medal on floor exercise and placed third in the all-around. At the Level 10 State Championships, Sheridan placed second in the all-around and won the vault title. Her next meet was the Level 10 Regionals, where she finished fourth in the all-around as well as second on floor exercise and third on vault. There, she qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals, where she finished third on vault and 14th in the all-around.
In 2008, Sheridan began her season at the Fiesta Bowl Invitational, where she won the all-around title. At the Golden State Classic, she placed first in the all-around and first on floor exercise. Sheridan won vault and floor exercise at the Crystal Cup. At the Pikes Peak Cup, she won a silver medal in the all-around. At the Level 10 State Championships, Sheridan won the all-around, vault and uneven bars titles. Sheridan then won another all-around title at the Level 10 Regional Championships. She also won gold medals on uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. Sheridan placed third in the all-around, first on uneven bars, fourh on floor exercise and sixth on vault at the Junior Olympic Nationals.
Sheridan started her 2011 season at the Arizona Grand Invitational and finished third in the all-around and second on balance beam. She traveled to Florida for the Sand Dollar Invitational where she won a bronze medal on uneven bars. Sheridan placed sixtn in the all-around at the Fiesta Bowl Invitational and Classic ROck Invitational. At the Winter Classic and Malibu Coast Challenge, she won the all-around title as well as first on floor exercise and second on uneven bars. At the Level 10 State Championships, she swept gold medals! Sheridan placed sixth in the all-around and third on uneven bars at the Level 10 Regionals. There, she qualified to the JO Nationals and placed tenth in the all-around and eighth on uneven bars. Sheridan won the 2011 Level 10 Most Outstanding for the State of Arizona and JO Gymnast of the Year (State of AZ).
Currently, Sheridan trains 30 to 35 hours per week at Desert Devils Gymnastics under coaches Wes Jones, Geoff Eaton and Ashley Toner. Sheridan is preparing for the upcoming 2012 season as a level 10 gymnast. She has verbally committed to the University of Washington for 2012-2013 school year.
