Sierra Ballard was born on August 15, 2002 in Louisiana to Steve and Lori Ballard. She has a sister, Sydney, a brother, Ethan, a dog named Stella and a cat, Snowball. Sierra is an honor student at Mandeville High School and she will graduate from high school in 2020. Sierra was named to National Honor Society.

Sierra's mom, Lori Strong-Ballard was on Canadian Team for the 1988 Olympics and 1992 Olympics. So, gymnastics came naturally for Sierra where she started taking recreational classes at the age of four at North Shore Gymnastics in Mandeville, LA and has been there ever since.

In 2014 as a level 7 gymnast, Sierra finished first in the all-around with a 37.950, first on uneven bars and second on vault. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships where she placed sixth on floor exercise and scored a 37.350 in the all-around. She moved up to level 8 for the 2015 season. She placed second in the all-around with a 37.625, first on uneven bars and second on balance beam. At the Region 8 Championships, Sierra placed fifth in the all-around with a 38.150 and second on balance beam.

Sierra moved up to level 9 in 2016. She placed second in the all-around with a 37.200, first on floor exercise and third on vault. At the Region 8 Championships, she finished second in the all-around with a 37.550 and first balance beam. She qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals in Virginia Beach, VA where she placed third in the all-around with a 37.500, fifth on floor exercise and sixth on balance beam. As a first-year level 10 gymnast in 2017, Sierra placed first in the all-around with a 37.150 and first on balance beam and floor exercise. At the Region 8 Championships, she finished fifth in the all-around and third on vault and balance beam. She qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Indianapolis, IN where she placed 11th in the all-around, ninth on floor exercise and 13th on vault out of 57 gymnasts.

In 2018, Sierra placed first on uneven bars, balance beam and in the all-around with 37.750 at the State Championships. At the Region 8 Championships she finished seventh in the all-around and third on balance beam. She qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Cincinnati. In 2019, Sierra placed second in the all-around and first on uneven bars at the State Championships. She qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals after finishing third in the all-around with a 37.700, first on balance beam and second on floor exercise. At the Nationals in Indianapolis, IN, she placed eighth on vault.

Sierra trains 23 hours per week at North Shore Gymnastics in Mandeville, LA under coaches Nataliya Goldberg, James Guidry, Lori Strong-Ballard and Catherine Maestri. Sierra would like to become Regional Champion and JO National Champion. Sierra will join LSU gymnastics team during the 2020-2021 school year.
