Skylar Masterson was born on December 1, 2001 in North Carolina to Rob and Fay Masterson. She has a brother, Jaxon and a dog named Luna. Skylar is an honor student at Sanderson High School and she will graduate from high school in 2020. When she has time outside of gymnastics, she enjoys art and crafts. She won first prize at the North Carolina State Fair for Handcrafts and Hobbies. She lifeguards in the summer and coached one recreational class per week at Superior Gymnastics.
Skylar started gymnastics when she was two years old in a Mommy and Me class. She loved climbing the rope, jumping on the tumble track and doing somersaults. She never left the gym after that. Skylar started her competitive gymnastics career at GymCarolina Gymnastics Academy in Raleigh, NC. In the summer of 2011, Skylar moved to Superior Gymnastics in Morrisville, NC and has been there ever since.
In 2015 as a level 8 gymnast, Skylar qualified to the State Championships. She continued competing level 8 in 2016 where she placed second in the all-around, first on vault and floor exercise and second on uneven bars. Skylar qualified to the Region 8 Championships, finishing 13th in the all-around, third on floor exercise and fourth on vault. Skylar moved up to level 9 for the 2017 season. She qualified to the State Championships but was unable to compete on all events due to an injury. She did place third on balance beam.
Skylar moved up to level 10 for the 2018 season where she qualified to the Region 8 Championships. In 2019, Skylar placed sixth on vault with a 9.350 at the State Championships.
Skylar trains 20 hours a week at Superior Gymnastics in Morrisville, NC under coaches Krystal Kramer, Justin Reynolds and Hannah Forti. Skylar is working hard to become a successful level 10 gymnast and qualify to the Junior Olympic Nationals. Her long-term goal is to compete for a college gymnastics team.
