Sophia began gymnastics when she was five years old in Plano, Texas. She has been in competitive gymnastics since level 4. She finished third in the all-around at the WOGA Classic and won the uneven bars and vault titles at the Level 5 Texas State Championship Meet in 2003. She placed third in the all-around at the WOGA Classic as a level six and fifth in the all-around at the Texas State Meet. At the 2005 WOGA Classic as a level seven, she did one of her best beam routines and scored a 9.925. She also won the all-around title. She did well at Level 8 Texas State Championship and placed third in the all-around at Regionals.
As a level 9, she won the bronze medal for the all-around at the 2007 Western Nationals. At level 10, she won the vault and balance beam titles at the 2008 Level 10 State Championships. Unfortunately before the Regional meet, she injured her ankle and was not able to compete and also missed the chance to qualify for Junior Olympic Nationals.
However one week later, she was lucky enough to be able to compete at the Elite National Qualifier meet at Texas Dreams in Coppell, Texas, and qualified for the elite level. The all-around score was 54.750 which qualified for the 2008 VISA Championships in Boston, MA. She went on to compete at US Classic in Houston, Texas before the VISA championship and placed 8th on vault and 26th in the all-around. She had her first VISA National Championship as junior elite gymnast in Boston, MA, and placed 9th on vault and 25th in the all-around.
Sophia began her season in 2009 at the Metroplex Challenge, where she placed second on balance beam. At the WOGA Classic, she finished fourth in the all-around and first on vault. She then finished third in the all-around and first on vault and balance beam at the Great West GymFest. At the Houston National Invitational, Sophia helped the team to win the team title and Sophia finished second overall and first on vault and uneven bars. At the American Classic, Sophia placed 12th in the all-around and fifth on vault. Sophia then traveled to the US Covergirl Classic in Des Moines, Iowa, where she placed eighth overall and first on uneven with a 14.9! At the VISA Championships, she finished 16th overall and ninth on vault.
In 2010, Sophia won the all-around and uneven bars titles at the WOGA Classic in senior elite division. At the Houston National Invitational, she placed second on vault and floor exercise. Sophia qualified to the VISA Championships in Hartford, CT after placing first in the all-around and first on uneven bars at the Texas Elite Qualifier. Sophia then traveled to Chicago, IL for the US Covergirl Classic. There, she finished 9th in the all-around and seventh on uneven bars. At the VISA Championships, Sophia placed 13th overall and 8th on bars.
Sophia began her 2011 season at the WOGA Classic where she finished fourth in the all-around and second on balance beam in the international session for seniors. She helped the WOGA team to win the team title at the Houston National Invitational. On the next day, she finished fourth in the all-around and second on balance beam. Sophia placed second on vault at the American Classic and fifth in the all-around at the US Covergirl Classic. This qualified Sophia to the VISA Championships in St. Paul, MN where she finished ninth in the all-around, eighth on uneven bars and ninth on balance beam.
Currently Sophia spends 34 hours a week and is currently coached by Laurent Landi and Cecile Cauqueteau-Landi at WOGA Plano, Texas. Sophia is preparing for the upcoming 2012 season as a senior international elite gymnast. After all, Gymnastics has been Sophia’s life. “Train Hard or Go Home” is gym WOGA’s motto and her belief. She is totally devoted to the gymnastics and determined to be the best she can be.
Sophia Miranda Lee was born on December 4, 1994 in Houston, Texas to Gong and Holly Lee. Currently, Sophia is a junior at Spring Creek Academy, where she is a straight "A" student and was in the Duke talent program. She has been invited to the National Young Leaders State Conference (NYLSC) in Texas as recommended by her school. She likes to participate in charitable events like “Race for Cure” of Susan G. Koman foundation and leukemia society.
Beside gymnastics, Sophia also enjoys her family, school, friends, and other things in life. She likes skiing in the winter when she can and swimming in the summer. She enjoys music and had entered piano recitals. She likes history and science. But she loves reading the most. Reading is her passion and book is her life. She is very sociable and has a lot of friends. She is on the phone all the time after practice and now never stops texting. She loves to hang around with her friends and have a good time. She loves her family, even her little brother, Eric who is currently in Gleneagle’s tennis team.
