Sophia Binsol was born on June 7, 2001 in Washington, D.C. to Patrick and Kim Binsol. She has three siblings, Josh, Mia and Sam and a dog named Tye. Currently, Sophia is an honor student at Westlake High School and she will graduate from high school in 2019. She is on Principal's' Honor Roll.
Sophia attended a summer camp at Unique Sports Academy in Waldorf, MD in the summer of 2008 and started taking recreational classes by the fall. About two years later, she started competing level 4 at the age of nine. She placed fourth on uneven bars at the State Championships. She moved up to level 5 in 2012, finishing eighth on uneven bars at the State Championships. Sophia tested out of level 6 and moved up to level 7 for the 2014 season. She finished second in the all-around, first on vault and second on floor exercise at the State Championships.
As a level 8 gymnast in 2015, Sophia placed fourth on balance beam at the State Championships. In 2016, she placed first on floor exercise and third on vault at the Level 8 State Championships. She qualified to the Region 7 Championships. During Sophia's final level 8 season in 2017, she placed second in the all-around and third on vault and uneven bars at the State Championships. At the Region 7 Championships, Sophia finished in the top ten in the all-around and first on vault. In the summer of 2018, Sophia moved to Apollo Gymnastics in Woodbridge, VA.
Sophia did well in 2018 as a level 9 gymnast where she finished fifth in the all-around and second on balance beam at the Region 7 Championships. She qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals in Rochester, NY.
Sophia trains 25.5 hours per week at Apollo Gymnastics in Woodbridge, VA under coaches Ken Anderson, Debbie Mairs and Teri Diamond. She would like to compete for a college gymnastics team.
