Sophia Kaloudis was born on August 1, 2006 in New York to Chris and Christina Kaloudis. She has an older sister Alexis, and a dog named Max. Sophia is a member of the National Junior Honor Society at J. Taylor Finley Middle School and will graduate Huntington High School in 2024.
From an early age Sophia was full of high energy and determination. Sophia enjoyed dance, art and music classes when she was a pre-schooler, but did not find her home until she tried gymnastics. When Sophia was four years old she began taking recreational gym classes at Gold Medal Gymnastics Center in Huntington, NY where she remains today. From the start Sophia really enjoyed gymnastics and started to excel. Sophia was always eager to try and learn new skills and quickly progressed. At her coach’s invitation, Sophia joined the USAG team and began competing as a level 4 gymnast in 2014.
As a level 4 gymnast in 2015, Sophia placed ninth in the all-around at the State Championships. The following year Sophia skipped level 5 and moved up to level 6. At the 2016 State Championships for level 6, she placed third in the all-around, second on balance beam and floor exercise and third on vault. Sophia skipped level 7 and advanced to level 8 for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. She was named to America’s Top 100 on uneven bars with a 9.725 in 2018. At the 2018 Level 8 State Championships, Sophia placed first in the all-around, vault and uneven bars. She was on the Level 8 New York State Super 8 Team for 2018 Region 6 Championships where she placed second on vault and fourth on uneven bars and in the all-around. It was a tremendous honor and experience for Sophia to represent New York State as a member of the Super 8 Team for Region 6.
As a level 9 gymnast in 2019, Sophia placed third on uneven bars and fifth in the all-around at the State Championships. At the Region 6 Championships, she placed first on uneven bars and floor exercise and third in the all-around. Sophia qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals in Kissimee, FL where she finished fourth on uneven bars.
Sophia is currently looking forward to an exciting competition season. When Sophia is not training 29 hours each week in the gym, she enjoys dancing, playing the violin and spending time outdoors with her friends and family. Her long-term goal is to obtain a Division I college gymnastics scholarship.
