Sydney Herz was born on December 27, 2003 in Baltimore, MD to Mike and Paula Herz. She has a twin brother, Luke and a dog named Tee-Bone. Currently, Sydney is an honor student at Severna Park High School and she will graduate from high school in 2022.

Sydney's mom enrolled her into gymnastics for fun when she was two years old and she fell in love with the sport. She joined pre-team at Docksiders Gymnastics in Millersville, MD. As a level 4 gymnast in 2011, Sydney placed fourth in the all-around and third on floor exercise at the State Championships. She moved up to level 5 for the 2012 season, finishing fifth in the all-around and fourth on uneven bars and balance beam at the State Championships. Sydney competed level 7 in 2014 and level 8 in 2015. In the summer of 2015, Sydney moved to Hill's Gymnastics in Gaithersburg, MD and has been there ever since.

In 2016, Sydney placed second in the all-around with a 37.400 and second on vault at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 7 Championships. Sydney moved up to level 9 for the next two seasons. In 2017, she placed sixth in the all-around and fifth on vault at the State Championships. At the Region 7 Championships, Sydney placed fourth on vault with a 9.600. In 2018, Sydney finished fifth in the all-around and first on vault at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 7 Championships, finishing 11th overall and fourth on vault and uneven bars.

Sydney moved up to level 10 for the 2019 season where she placed sixth in the all-around, third on floor exercise and fourth on uneven bars and balance beam at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 7 Championships. In 2020, Sydney qualified to the Level 10 State Championships but was unable to compete due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Sydney trains 22 hours per week at Hill’s Gymnastics in Gaithersburg, MD under coaches Cynthia Smaha and Kelli Hill. She is working hard to qualify to the Junior Olympic Nationals in 2021. Her long-term goal is to compete for a Division I college gymnastics team.
