Tawn Breese Gurnsey was born on March 11, 2000 in Winter Haven, Florida to Dave and Chris Gurnsey. She has a younger brother, Tyson. Currently, Tawn is a senior at All Saints Academy. She has been on Headmaster's List for straight A's every year. During Tawn's spare time, she enjoys waterskiing, painting, reading and spending time with her family and friends.
Everyone told Tawn's mom that Tawn looked liked a little Mary Lou Retton because of the way she was built. So, Tawn's parents thought they would try out gymnastics. Of course, Tawn loved it from day one! She competed through level 6 at Gymnastics, Etc in Lakeland, Florida. Tawn started training at Brandy Johnson's Global Gymnastics in Clermont, Florida when she was nine years old.
As a level 7 gymnast in 2011, Tawn finished third in the all-around and second on uneven bars at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships where she placed fifth in the all-around with a 37.625, second on uneven bars and fourth on floor exercise.
Tawn moved up to level 8 for the 2012 season. She finished first on vault and second on uneven bars, floor exercise and in the all-around at the State Championships. She made Team Florida for the Level 8 Regionals, finishing fifth in the all-around with a 37.975, fifth on balance beam and third on floor exercise. In 2013 as a level 9 gymnast, Tawn placed fourth on uneven bars and in the all-around at the State Championships. She finished sixth in the all-around and fourth on floor exercise at the Region 8 Championships. She qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals where she finished 13th in the all-around. Tawn did not compete in 2014 due to an injury.
As a first-year level 10 gymnast in 2015, Tawn placed sixth on balance beam at the State Championships and qualified to the Region 8 Championships. Tawn missed 2016 due to an injury. In 2017, Awn finished first on balance beam with a 9.475 and third on floor exercise scoring a 9.300. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships as a specialist.
Currently, Tawn is preparing for the 2018 season as a level 10 gymnast. She trains 24 hours per week at Brandy Johnson's Global Gymnastics in Clermont, Florida under coaches Kelly Pitzen and Brandy Johnson-Scharpf. She would like to obtain a college scholarship to a Division 1 school.
