Velandra, ā€œVā€ was born on August 25, 2003 in Round Rock, TX. She has an 8-year old brother Adrian Brochi and two dogs named Summer and Winter. Velandra did some recreational gymnastics along with some soccer, ballet and tap. She was also on a swim team and did some acting at an early age. At the age of eight, she had to choose one or two extracurricular activities because it was getting very difficult to do them all. It was an easy choice for Velandra. She chose to solely do gymnastics. She fell in love with the sport and she wanted to compete and be part of the gymnastics team at her gym. It was not happening, so her mother took Velandra to try out at another gym, Platinum Gymnastics. The coaches really liked Velandra and saw potential but was still not ready to be on team. Her parents decided to do recreational gymnastics at both gyms hoping to increase the chances to make team. After a few months and at the age of nine, Platinum Gymnastics asked Velandra to be part of their pre-team! She knew that she would have to work extremely hard to catch up to all the girls her age. She was nine years old and about to do beginner level 4 and many of the girls her age were already doing optional gymnastics. Almost immediately after making team, an opportunity to attend a four-hour charter school which would allow Velandra to do more gymnastics arose. She made the very difficult decision to leave her elementary friends and attend the charter school. This is how Velandra's gymnastics journey started.

Velandra started competing in the fall of 2012 and by the end of the 2019 season she completed her fourth year of level 10 gymnastics including three Junior Olympic National competitions and a Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup. She is extremely dedicated to the sport but still manages to find time to enjoy the outdoors and spend time with her family and friends.
