Cai was always trying to do cartwheels and flips around the house, so she started taking gymnastics for fun when she was seven years old. She has been training at Gymnastics Academy of Atlanta in Kennesaw, GA her whole gymnastics career. Two years after she started gymnastics, she placed first in the all-around and first on vault and uneven bars at the Level 4 State Championships. At the 2013 Level 4 State Championships, Cai grabbed gold medals on uneven bars, floor exercise and in the all-around with a 37.550. She was also named to America's Top 100 on vault with a 9.9. Cai tested out of level 5, skipped level 6 and quickly moved up to level 7 for the 2015 season.
In 2015 as a level 7 gymnast, Cai finished first in the all-around with a 37.900 and first on vault, uneven bars and balance beam at the State Championships. At the Region 8 Championships, she placed seventh in the all-around with a 38.075 and fifth on floor exercise. Cai moved up to level 8 for the 2016 season. She earned gold medals on balance beam and in the all-around with a 37.550 at the State Championships. At the Region 8 Championships, she finished sixth in the all-around with a 37.600 and fourth on vault.
Cai had a great level 9 season in 2017! She swept the gold medals with all-around score of 37.575 at the State Championships. At the Region 8 Championships, she finished second in the all-around with a 37.175 and third on uneven bars. Cai qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals in Lansing, MI where she placed 17th overall, fourth on vault and tenth on balance beam. As a level 10 gymnast in 2018, Cai placed seventh in the all-around and fourth on floor exercise at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships. In 2019, Cai qualified to the Region 8 Championships.
In 2020, Cai qualified to the Level 10 State Championships but was unable to compete due to COVID-19 pandemic. In the summer of 2020, Cai moved to Atlanta North Stars Gymnastics.
Cai trains 20 hours per week at Atlanta North Stars Gymnastics in Marietta, GA under coaches Gerson Ramirez, Krystal Abrille and Gregory Gutkin. She is working hard to be consistent with her routines and qualify to the Junior Olympic Nationals the next few years. Her long-term goal is to obtain a college gymnastics scholarship.
