Elena Bailey was born on May 11, 2003 in Perm, Russia. She was adopted at six months old and currently lives in Lakeridge, VA with her parents, Charles and Amy Bailey. Currently, Elena is a student at Woodbridge Senior High School and she will graduate in 2021. When Elena has time outside of gymnastics, she enjoys listening to music, watching Netflix, playing with her dog and swimming.
Elena enrolled in a Mommy and Me class at Apollo Gymnastics in Woodbridge, VA at the age of two. She was very active child and needed an outlet for her energy. She loved to swim and was already taking swim lessons. She loved to go to the playground to run, climb, and swing, so gymnastics seemed like the perfect fit for her. She thrived in this environment from day one. Elena has been training at Apollo Gymnastics her whole gymnastics career.
As a level 6 gymnast in 2014, Elena won the vault title with a 9.525 and placed fifth overall at the State Championships. She moved up to level 7 for the 2015 season, finishing second in the all-around with a 38.275 and fourth on vault and floor exercise at the State Championships. Elena competed level 8 the next two seasons. She placed fifth on floor exercise and sixth on vault at the 2016 State Championships and qualified to the Region 7 Championships. In 2017, she finished second in the all-around with a 38.175, first on floor exercise and second on vault and uneven bars at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 7 Championships, finishing ninth overall and second on vault.
In 2018 as a level 9 gymnast, Elena finished sixth in the all-around and third on floor exercise at the State Championships. She did well at the Region 7 Championships, finishing sixth in the all-around, second on floor exercise and fifth on vault. She qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals in Rochester, NY where she placed in the top ten in the all-around, third on vault and fifth on floor exercise. Elena was unable to compete in 2019 due to torn ACL. In 2020, Elena qualified to the Level 10 State Championships but was unable to compete due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Elena trains 26 hours per week at Apollo Gymnastics in Woodbridge, VA under coaches Ken Anderson and Loreto Alvarado. She is working hard to qualify to the Junior Olympic Nationals the next few years. Her long-term goal is to obtain a college gymnastics scholarship.
