Emily Owens was born on June 11, 2004 in San Antonio, TX to Wally and Carrie Owens. She has an older sister, Sydney and a twin brother, Will. Sydney verbally committed to the University of Iowa on softball scholarship and Will is a baseball player. Currently, Emily is a student at Connections Academy and she will graduate from high school in 2022. When Emily has time outside of gymnastics, she enjoys reading, sewing, traveling, spending time with her friends and family and binging TV shows with her sister.

Emily started taking recreational gymnastics at the age of three at Alamo Gymnastics Center in San Antonio, TX. She was asked to move up to rising stars by the age of four. At the 2011 Level 5 State Championships, Emily placed fifth in the all-around with a 37.400 and fourth on vault. She moved up to level 6 for the 2012 season where she finished first in the all-around with a 37.225, first on vault and third on uneven bars and floor exercise. In the summer of 2012, Emily moved to Aerial Athletics in San Antonio, TX.

As a level 7 gymnast in 2013, Emily finished fourth in the all-around with a 37.675, second on balance beam and sixth on floor exercise at the State Championships. In 2014, Emily moved up to level 8 where she scored a 37.600 in the all-around at the State Championships and 37.450 at the Region 3 Championships. As a first-year level 9 gymnast in 2015, Emily placed fourth in the all-around with a 37.675 and third on uneven bars at the State Championships. At the Region 3 Championships, Emily finished fifth in the all-around with a 37.800 and fifth on balance beam. She qualified to the Level 9 Western Nationals in Spokane, WA, finishing ninth on vault. In 2016 Emily came back even stronger as a second-year level 9, finishing first in the all-around with a 38.675 and first on vault, balance beam and floor exercise at the State Championships. At the Region 3 Championships, she placed first in the all-around with a 38.675, first on balance beam and second on vault. Emily qualified to the Level 9 Western Nationals in Montana for the second time, finishing 14th in the all-around and fourth on vault. Emily concluded her 2016 season at the Hopes Classic in Huntsville, TX.

Emily moved up to level 10 and hopes pre-elite for the 2017 season. She easily qualified to hopes pre-elite after passing both compulsories and optionals at the Brestyan's National Elite Qualifier in Las Vegas. At the State Championships, Emily placed sixth in the all-around, second on vault and third on uneven bars. She did really well at the Region 3 Championships, finishing fourth in the all-around and second on balance beam. She qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Indianapolis, IN where she finished 12th on balance beam. Emily concluded her 2017 season at the Hopes Classic in Huntsville, TX. In the summer of 2017, Emily followed her coach to his new gym, Mavericks Gymnastics.

In 2018, Emily finished fourth in the all-around and fifth on vault and uneven bars at the State Championships. At the Region 3 Championships, she placed third in the all-around with a 37.025 and first on uneven bars. Emily qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Cincinnati, OH where she placed 14th on uneven bars with a 9.425.

Emily trains 29 hours per week at Mavericks Gymnastics in San Antonio, TX under coach Steve Arkell. Emily is working hard to qualify to junior international elite as well as to qualify to the USA Championships. Her long-term goal is to obtain a Division I college scholarship.
