India Dixon was born on June 25, 2003 in Newark, DE to Kim and Dr. Dwayne Dixon. She has a brother, Donovan. India is an honor student at Caravel Academy College Preparatory School located in Bear, DE.  India will graduate from high school in 2021. During India’s spare time, she enjoys arts & crafts, knitting and reading. She even has a small business and makes slime and bracelets for friends and family. India has a large base of customers. India enjoys listening to music and swimming. She attends church services on a regular basis and participate when called upon.

India was a member of the National Junior Honor Society and Tri M Honor Society when she was in middle school and she is now a member of the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS). India participates and dedicates her time and service to the following organizations; Caravel Student Government (CSG), the Young Author’s Club, Red Cross Club, Chick-fila-Leadership Club and Medical Club. She has done volunteer work for the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Holi-day Food Drive and for the William B Keene Elementary School helping PTA and Teachers. She also volunteers at First State Gymnastics during the hosted meets.

At a very early age, India was a competitive swimmer and ranked high for her breast stroke and free style. She also ran middle school track and field just for leisure at Caravel Academy when she was in sixth grade. Many were amazed at how fast this tiny girl was!  However, her love and devotion for gymnastics came first. Known for her quickness, speed, and tenacity, she was able to use her talent from the track and deliver that speed and apply it when she does her vault!

From an early age, India fell in love with gymnastics and quickly progressed in the sport. India started gymnastics at Olympiad Gymnastics located in Newport, DE. Her parents could see that she was very determined and serious about the sport. So, her parents found a gym that could offer her a more structured training. She tried out at First State Gymnastics in Newark, DE and was immediately accepted onto their level 4/5 team which she progressed and did very well during competition season.

As a level 5 gymnast during the State Championship, India placed first on vault, uneven bars, floor exercise and in the all-around. As India progressed through the sport, the demands and skills became even more difficult. However, she continued gymnastics and had the desire to push herself even more. She placed fourth in the all-around with a 37.250 and first on uneven bars at the 2016 Level 7 State Championships, first on vault, balance beam and in the all-around at the 2017 Level 8 State Championships. She qualified to the 2017 Level 8 Regionals, finishing first on vault, fourth on balance beam and eighth overall.

The following season, India moved up to level 9. However, during the season, India had to take time off due to her hip being unaligned which forced her to go to therapy three times per week. She was able to return just in time to compete at the State Championships, in which she finished first in the all-around, second on balance beam and third on uneven bars. India qualified for Region 7 Championships where she finished third on uneven bars, fourth on vault, and was the floor exercise champion. India was the alternate for the Level 9 Eastern Nationals.

During the 2018-2019 season, India remained at level 9/10. Her coaches and parents felt that it would be best for her to repeat level 9 due to the fact that, she missed most of her competition season. India worked throughout the season perfecting level 9 skills while working on level 10 skills. At the Level 9 State Championships, India finished first in the all-around and first on the vault, uneven bars and balance beam. India qualified for the Region 7 Championships where she placed eighth in the all-around making her first alternate for the Level 9 Eastern Nationals. She also was the vault and uneven bars champion. India’s vault score placed her on the America’s Top 100 vault gymnast list.

India moved up to level 10 for the 2020 season. She qualified to the Level 10 State Championships but was unable to compete due to COVID-19 pandemic.

India trains 20 hours per week at First State Gymnastics in Newark, DE under coaches Slava Glazounov and Brooke Parker. India is working hard to qualify to the JO Nationals and to place in the top six. Her long-term goal is to compete on a division I or II collegiate gymnastics team. India is looking for a college that offers biochemistry and or a pre-med program. Her academic goal is to become a plastic surgeon.
