Katie’s mom, (Jennifer Sans Abeln), was a former gymnast and part of the USA Gymnastics Women’s National Trampoline Team. (1992-1999) Following her mom’s footsteps, she began her gymnastics career at Gleason’s Gymnastics School in Eagan, MN at the age of one. She was the 2017 Level 3 MN State All-Around Bronze Medalist, 2018 Level 4 MN State All-Around Champion and 2019 Level 5 MN State All-Around Silver Medalist.

As a level 7 gymnast in 2021, Katie placed sixth in the all-around and third on uneven bars at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 4 Championships, finishing third in the all-around and second on uneven bars. Katie tested out of level 8 and quickly moved up to level 9 for the 2022 season where she qualified to the Level 9 State Championships. Following her 2022 season, Katie moved to Legacy Gymnastics in Eden Prairie, MN. Katie had a great level 9 season in 2023 where she placed fourth in the all-around and third on floor exercise at the State Championships. At the Region 4 Championships, Katie placed third in the all-around and second on floor exercise. She qualified to the Region 4 Championships, finishing in the top ten in the all-around and second on uneven bars, qualifying to her first Level 9 Western Championships, taking fifth on floor exercise and eighth in the all-around with a 37.325.

Katie moved up to level 10 for the 2024 season. She won the all-around and uneven bars titles at the Level 10 State Championships. She qualified to the Region 4 Championships, finishing in the top ten in the all-around and second on uneven bars. Katie qualified to the National Championships in the all-star session as an uneven bars specialist. In 2025, Katie placed fourth in the all-around and fourth on uneven bars at the Level 10 State Championships. St the Region 4 Championships, she finished sixth overall and third on uneven bars. This qualified Katie to the Level 10 National Championships in Salt Lake City, UT.

When Katie isn't busy training 21 hours each week in the gym, she enjoys shopping, baking and hanging out with her family and friends. She is the daughter to Jennifer and Troy and she has a sister, Allie and a brother, Jack. Currently, Katie is an honor student at Lakeville North High School and she will graduate from high school in 2029. Katie is currently taking Honors classes.
