Lauren Keener was born on September 8, 2003 in North Carolina to Christopher and Paula Keener. She has a younger sister, Catherine who is also a gymnast at Sonshine Gymnastics. Lauren is an honor student at Connections Academy and she will graduate from high school in 2021. When Lauren has time outside of gymnastics, she enjoys hanging out with her friends and traveling.

Lauren had too much energy and liked to climb on everything. Her parents decided to enroll her into gymnastics at the age of three so she could have a safe environment to burn off energy. Lauren has been at Sonshine Gymnastics in Holly Springs, NC her whole gymnastics career. As a level 4 gymnast in 2011, Lauren finished fourth in the all-around and first on vault at the State Championships. She moved up to level 5 for the 2012 season, finishing fifth in the all-around and third on balance beam at the State Championships.

In 2013, Lauren tested out of level 6 and moved up to level 7 for the 2014 season. At the Level 7 State Championships, she placed sixth in the all-around with a 37.250 and third on uneven bars at the Region 8 Championships. As a level 8 gymnast in 2015, Lauren placed eighth in the all-around with a 37.450 and fourth on balance beam at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships, finishing fifth on uneven bars and seventh on balance beam. Lauren continued competing level 8 in 2016. At the State Championships, she placed sixth in the all-around, second on floor exercise and third on balance beam. At the Region 8 Championships, she placed seventh in the all-around with a 37.175 and fourth on balance beam.

Lauren moved up to level 9 for the 2017 season. At the State Championships, she placed sixth in the all-around and fourth on uneven bars and balance beam. Lauren placed eighth in the all-around, sixth on balance beam and seventh on vault at the Region 8 Championships. She was the first alternate for the Level 9 Eastern Nationals. Lauren moved up to level 10 for the 2018 season where she qualified to the Region 8 Championships. Lauren was awarded the 2018 Sonshine Level 10 MVP award. In 2019, Lauren placed sixth on balance beam at the Region 8 Championships.

Lauren trains 20-24 hours per week at Sonshine Gymnastics in Holly Springs, NC under coaches Heidi and Milan Stanovich. Her long-term goal is to obtain a Division I college scholarship.
