Maddie started gymnastics at a recreation center for a six-week session at the age of three. Her parents put Maddie in it because of her core strength. Maddie's dad is 6”5’ and she would jump up and grab his forearm and pike her legs up to a “V." After her third session, Coach Sally told her mom that Maddie needed to go to a real gym. She has been at GMS Gymnastics in Virginia ever since.
As a level 7 gymnast in 2017, Maddie placed sixth on uneven bars and eighth in the all-around at the State Championships. She moved up to level 8 for the 2018 season where she earned bronze medals on vault and uneven bars and placed fifth overall at the State Championships, qualifying to the Region 7 Championships. In 2019, Maddie placed third in the all-around and third on vault at the Level 8 State Championships. At the Region 7 Championships, she placed eighth in the all-around and fifth on vault.
Maddie moved up to level 9 for the 2020 season. She qualified to the State Championships but was unable to compete due to COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, Maddie placed third in the all-around, second on vault and third on uneven bars and balance beam. She qualified to the Region 7 Championships where she placed fifth on uneven bars and sixth on vault.
When Maddie isn't busy training over 20 hours each week in the gym, she enjoys reading, drawing and painting. She is the youngest of two children to Michelle and Tim Watson and she has an older sister, Ally. Currently, Maddie is an honor student at Brentsville District High School and she will graduate from high school in 2024.
